1 HJR171 2 218589-2 3 By Representative Faulkner 4 RFD: Rules 5 First Read: 15-MAR-22 Page 0 HJR171 1 2 ENROLLED, House Joint Resolution, 3 RECOGNIZING THE 100TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE JUNIOR 4 LEAGUE OF BIRMINGHAM. 5 6 WHEREAS, it is a distinct privilege to recognize the 7 100th Anniversary of the Junior League of Birmingham; and 8 WHEREAS, on May 10, 1922, the Junior League of 9 Birmingham held its first meeting at South Highland 10 Presbyterian Church in Birmingham, Alabama; and 11 WHEREAS, the Junior League of Birmingham is an 12 organization of over 2,000 women committed to the mission of 13 promoting volunteerism, developing the potential of women, and 14 improving the community through the effective action and 15 leadership of trained volunteers; and 16 WHEREAS, the Junior League of Birmingham is the 17 ninth largest league; and 18 WHEREAS, throughout the years, the Junior League of 19 Birmingham has assisted in the development of various 20 organizations to better the community of Birmingham, including 21 the development of the Birmingham Children's Theater, the 22 Visiting Nurses Association, the Junior League Speech and 23 Hearing, Magic Moments, the Birmingham/Jefferson County Family 24 Violence Project, Better Basics, Literacy Council of Central 25 Alabama, Teen Court of the Alabama Center for Law and Civic Page 1 HJR171 1 Education, and as an affiliate of the Dolly Parton Imagination 2 Library; and 3 WHEREAS, the Junior League of Birmingham welcomes 4 all women, valuing differences as assets by creating a culture 5 of inclusivity where the JLB is grounded to the mission, 6 recognizing this is what ties the Junior League of Birmingham 7 together; and 8 WHEREAS, the Junior League of Birmingham believes 9 that four Impact Areas are fundamental to the overall 10 well-being of a community and its individuals, including 11 Economic Security and Financial Stability, Education and 12 Culture, Health and Wellness, and Safety and Crisis; and 13 WHEREAS, last year the Junior League of Birmingham 14 provided over 45,000 volunteer hours in the Birmingham 15 community with a $1.28 million total volunteer impact and 16 provided funds and volunteers for over 40 community projects 17 in the Birmingham area; and 18 WHEREAS, the Junior League of Birmingham has 19 demonstrated a record of leadership and volunteerism within 20 the community and is one of the leading service organizations 21 in Alabama; now therefore, 22 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH 23 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we recognize the 100th 24 Anniversary of the Junior League of Birmingham, and we extend 25 to all membership, the highest tribute and deepest adoration, Page 2 HJR171 1 and request that all Alabama residents join us in honoring the 2 accomplishments of this organization.
