6 ENROLLED, An Act,
7 Relating to any Class 6 municipality in which the
8 city government consists of a mayor and five members of the
9 city council elected for staggered terms; to further authorize
10 the revision of the election dates and terms of office of the
11 mayor and members of the city council.
12 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
13 Section 1. This act shall apply to any Class 6
14 municipality in which the city government on the effective
15 date of this act consists of a mayor and five members of the
16 city council elected for staggered terms.
17 Section 2. In any Class 6 municipality to which this
18 act applies, the city council of the municipality may adopt an
19 ordinance revising the election dates and terms of the city
20 council and mayor as provided in this section. The ordinance,
21 if enacted, shall provide:
22 (1) That the members of the city council to be
23 elected at the general municipal election in 2022 shall be
24 elected for terms of five years commencing on the first Monday
25 in November 2022, and successors shall be elected for terms of

1 four years at a general municipal election in 2027, for terms
2 commencing on the first Monday in November 2027, and every
3 four years thereafter.
4 (2) The terms of the mayor and the members of the
5 city council set to expire in 2024 shall be extended by one
6 year to expire in 2025, and successors to the offices of mayor
7 and city council shall be elected for terms of four years at a
8 general municipal election in 2025, for terms commencing on
9 the first Monday in November 2025, and every four years
10 thereafter.
11 Section 3. The provisions of this act are
12 supplemental and shall not be construed to repeal any law not
13 in direct conflict with this act.
14 Section 4. This act shall become effective
15 immediately following its passage and approval by the
16 Governor, or its otherwise becoming law.
