14	14	8 RENAMING A PORTION OF STATE HIGHWAY 279 IN
15	15	9 SCOTTSBORO IN MEMORY OF DR. WAYNE PATTERSON III.

17	17	11 WHEREAS, it is with highest commendation that the
18	18	12 Legislature of Alabama renames a portion of Alabama State
19	19	13 Highway 279 from it's intersection of Alabama State Highway 79
20	20	14 and Goosepond Drive North to Ida Moody Road, in loving memory
21	21	15 of Dr. Wayne "Doc" Patterson III; and
22	22	16 WHEREAS, the renaming of this portion of the highway
23	23	17 is in tribute to Dr. Patterson who served Scottsboro, Alabama,
24	24	18 and the surrounding area as a Doctor of Dental Surgery for 39
25	25	19 years; he lovingly cared for his patients at Valley Dental
26	26	20 Implant Center; helping others and improving lives was his
27	27	21 favorite part of being a dentist; he was a pioneer in North
28	28	22 Alabama, among the first to begin doing dental implants in the
29	29	23 1980s; he was a shining example of a good human being, even
30	30	24 traveling across the globe on church missions to assist
31	31	25 impoverished countries and provide them with free dental care
32	32	26 and education; what brought him joy was serving others in
33	33	27 whatever capacity he could with a grateful and open heart; and
34	34	Page 1 1 WHEREAS, it is indeed appropriate to recognize the
35	35	2 exceptional Dr. Patterson for his dedicated, capable, and
36	36	3 selfless service to his community of Scottsboro and to the
37	37	4 State of Alabama; now therefore,
38	38	5 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE LEGISLATURE OF
39	39	6 ALABAMA, That a portion of Alabama State Highway 279 from it's
40	40	7 intersection of Alabama State Highway 79 and Goosepond Drive
41	41	8 North to Ida Moody Road, in loving memory of Dr. Wayne "Doc"
42	42	9 Patterson III, and the appropriate authorities are directed to
43	43	10 erect and maintain signs and markers specifying this
44	44	11 designation of honor as provided in this resolution.
45	45	12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Department of
46	46	13 Transportation is requested to determine the cost of
47	47	14 fabricating and erecting the appropriate signs and markers,
48	48	15 consistent with applicable requirements and laws, and upon
49	49	16 receiving funds from non-state sources covering that cost, to
50	50	17 erect signs and markers as provided in this resolution in
51	51	18 recognition of this memorial designation.
