WAYNE PATTERSON III. 10 11 WHEREAS, it is with highest commendation that the 12 Legislature of Alabama renames a portion of Alabama State 13 Highway 279 from it's intersection of Alabama State Highway 79 14 and Goosepond Drive North to Ida Moody Road, in loving memory 15 of Dr. Wayne "Doc" Patterson III; and 16 WHEREAS, the renaming of this portion of the highway 17 is in tribute to Dr. Patterson who served Scottsboro, Alabama, 18 and the surrounding area as a Doctor of Dental Surgery for 39 19 years; he lovingly cared for his patients at Valley Dental 20 Implant Center; helping others and improving lives was his 21 favorite part of being a dentist; he was a pioneer in North 22 Alabama, among the first to begin doing dental implants in the 23 1980s; he was a shining example of a good human being, even 24 traveling across the globe on church missions to assist 25 impoverished countries and provide them with free dental care 26 and education; what brought him joy was serving others in 27 whatever capacity he could with a grateful and open heart; and Page 1 1 WHEREAS, it is indeed appropriate to recognize the 2 exceptional Dr. Patterson for his dedicated, capable, and 3 selfless service to his community of Scottsboro and to the 4 State of Alabama; now therefore, 5 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE LEGISLATURE OF 6 ALABAMA, That a portion of Alabama State Highway 279 from it's 7 intersection of Alabama State Highway 79 and Goosepond Drive 8 North to Ida Moody Road, in loving memory of Dr. Wayne "Doc" 9 Patterson III, and the appropriate authorities are directed to 10 erect and maintain signs and markers specifying this 11 designation of honor as provided in this resolution. 12 BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That the Department of 13 Transportation is requested to determine the cost of 14 fabricating and erecting the appropriate signs and markers, 15 consistent with applicable requirements and laws, and upon 16 receiving funds from non-state sources covering that cost, to 17 erect signs and markers as provided in this resolution in 18 recognition of this memorial designation.
