15+AN ACT
1616 Relating to Randolph County; to amend Sections 2 and 5
1717 of Act 2021-307 of the 2021 Regular Session, relating to the
1818 coroner; to provide for the salary of the coroner effective at
1919 the beginning of the current term in order to implement Act
2020 2021-301 as intended; and to provide that this act is
2121 retroactive and curative to January 16, 2023.
2222 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
2323 Section 1. Section 2 and Section 5 of Act 2021-307 of
2424 the 2021 Regular Session, are amended to read as follows:
2525 "Section 2.(a) Effective beginning the next term of
2626 office of the coroner, 60 days prior to the first day for
2727 qualifying in the election for the office of Coroner of
2828 Randolph County for the next term of office, the Randolph
2929 County Commission may increase and set January 16, 2023, the
3030 annual salary of the coroner for the next term of office at an
3131 amount not to exceed shall be one thousand dollars ($1,000)
3232 per month to be paid from the county general fund.
3333 (b) Effective beginning the next term of office of the
3434 coroner commencing in January 2027, and each term thereafter,
3535 not less than 60 days prior to the first day for qualifying in
36-the election for the term, the Randolph County Commission may
37-increase and set the annual salary of the coroner commencing
38-on the beginning of that term of office, and thereafter, as
39-determined by the county commission.
40-(c) The salaries provided in this section shall be in
41-lieu of any other salary, compensation, fees, or allowances

65+the election for the term, the Randolph County Commission may
66+increase and set the annual salary of the coroner commencing
67+on the beginning of that term of office, and thereafter, as
68+determined by the county commission.
69+(c) The salaries provided in this section shall be in
70+lieu of any other salary, compensation, fees, or allowances
7171 provided to the coroner. The coroner shall waive any other
7272 fees or compensation in order to receive any salary provided
7373 by this act.
7474 (d)(1) The Randolph County Commission may authorize the
7575 coroner to participate in retirement and the county health
7676 insurance under the terms and conditions as the county
7777 commission may determine and may expend county funds for that
7878 purpose. Any benefits provided under this section shall be
7979 approved by the county commission not less than 60 days prior
8080 to the first day for qualifying for election to the office
8181 coroner.
8282 (2) The Legislature finds that the Coroner of Randolph
8383 County is a full-time official and is on-call 24 hours a day,
8484 seven days a week to perform the duties of the office."
8585 "Section 5. Effective beginning the next term of office
8686 of the coroner, Act 2004-273 of the 2004 Regular Session (Acts
8787 2004, p. 379), is repealed effective upon the implementation
8888 of this amendatory act ."
8989 Section 2. This act is retroactive and curative to
9090 January 16, 2023, in order to implement Act 2021-307 as
9191 amended. Any salary or other compensation paid to the coroner
9292 in conformance with this act is ratified confirmed effective
93-retroactively to January 16, 2023.
94-Section 3. This act shall become effective immediately
95-following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its
96-otherwise becoming law.
