15+HJR___ MOURNING THE DEATH OF FORMER REPRESENTATIVE JOHNNY
1716 LAWSON ROBINSON.
1817 WHEREAS, it is with profound sadness that we note the
1918 death on March 17, 2023, of former Representative Johnny
2019 Lawson Robinson; and
2120 WHEREAS, his passing leaves a void in the lives of
2221 his loving family, many friends, and the entire community
2322 where he was highly regarded; and
2423 WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson was born on March 22, 1950, in
2524 Dawson, Alabama; he was the youngest of three children born
2625 to Thelma Inez Lawson and Horace Clay Robinson; and
2726 WHEREAS, a 1968 graduate of Geraldine High School, he
2827 was the youngest Deputy Sheriff in DeKalb County at age 16;
2928 he attended Jacksonville State University and earned a
3029 Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice in 1971; and
3130 WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson attended the Birmingham School
3231 of Law and graduated in 1984, while working full time at the
3332 District Attorney's office; and he was elected to the
3433 Alabama State Legislature in 1994 where he served until 2014
3534 before retiring from public service; and
3635 WHEREAS, he formally exonerated the wrongly accused
3736 Scottsboro Boys, recruited U.S. Gypsum to Bridgeport,
3837 established the Senior Rx program, sponsored the bill that
3938 created the James Martin Wildlife area and co-sponsored the

6968 bill dedicating a section of I-65 as "The Lost Highway"; and
7069 WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson was a faithful and dedicated
7170 member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church; his favorite Bible
7271 verse was Luke 12:48, "For everyone to whom much is given,
7372 much shall be required; and of him to whom men entrust much,
7473 they will require and demand all the more"; and
7574 WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his mother,
7675 Thelma Inez Robinson, father, Horace Clay Robinson; and
7776 brother, Larry Robinson; and
7877 WHEREAS, survivors include his son, Lawson Robinson;
7978 sister, Annette Robinson and niece, Amy Robinson; and a host
8079 of other relatives and friends; and
8180 WHEREAS, although his presence will be greatly
8281 missed, the memory of Mr. Robinson will be cherished in the
8382 hearts of all who knew and loved him; now therefore;
8483 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
8584 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the death of former
8685 Representative Johnny Lawson Robinson is recorded with deep
8786 sadness, and this resolution is offered in tribute to his
8887 life and with heartfelt sympathy to his family, whose grief
8988 is shared by many.
