17	16		LAWSON ROBINSON.
18	17		WHEREAS, it is with profound sadness that we note the
19	18		death on March 17, 2023, of former Representative Johnny
20	19		Lawson Robinson; and
21	20		WHEREAS, his passing leaves a void in the lives of
22	21		his loving family, many friends, and the entire community
23	22		where he was highly regarded; and
24	23		WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson was born on March 22, 1950, in
25	24		Dawson, Alabama; he was the youngest of three children born
26	25		to Thelma Inez Lawson and Horace Clay Robinson; and
27	26		WHEREAS, a 1968 graduate of Geraldine High School, he
28	27		was the youngest Deputy Sheriff in DeKalb County at age 16;
29	28		he attended Jacksonville State University and earned a
30	29		Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice in 1971; and
31	30		WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson attended the Birmingham School
32	31		of Law and graduated in 1984, while working full time at the
33	32		District Attorney's office; and he was elected to the
34	33		Alabama State Legislature in 1994 where he served until 2014
35	34		before retiring from public service; and
36	35		WHEREAS, he formally exonerated the wrongly accused
37	36		Scottsboro Boys, recruited U.S. Gypsum to Bridgeport,
38	37		established the Senior Rx program, sponsored the bill that
39	38		created the James Martin Wildlife area and co-sponsored the

69	68		bill dedicating a section of I-65 as "The Lost Highway"; and
70	69		WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson was a faithful and dedicated
71	70		member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church; his favorite Bible
72	71		verse was Luke 12:48, "For everyone to whom much is given,
73	72		much shall be required; and of him to whom men entrust much,
74	73		they will require and demand all the more"; and
75	74		WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his mother,
76	75		Thelma Inez Robinson, father, Horace Clay Robinson; and
77	76		brother, Larry Robinson; and
78	77		WHEREAS, survivors include his son, Lawson Robinson;
79	78		sister, Annette Robinson and niece, Amy Robinson; and a host
80	79		of other relatives and friends; and
81	80		WHEREAS, although his presence will be greatly
82	81		missed, the memory of Mr. Robinson will be cherished in the
83	82		hearts of all who knew and loved him; now therefore;
84	83		BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
85	84		HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the death of former
86	85		Representative Johnny Lawson Robinson is recorded with deep
87	86		sadness, and this resolution is offered in tribute to his
88	87		life and with heartfelt sympathy to his family, whose grief
89	88		is shared by many.
