WHEREAS, it is with profound sadness that we note the death on March 17, 2023, of former Representative Johnny Lawson Robinson; and WHEREAS, his passing leaves a void in the lives of his loving family, many friends, and the entire community where he was highly regarded; and WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson was born on March 22, 1950, in Dawson, Alabama; he was the youngest of three children born to Thelma Inez Lawson and Horace Clay Robinson; and WHEREAS, a 1968 graduate of Geraldine High School, he was the youngest Deputy Sheriff in DeKalb County at age 16; he attended Jacksonville State University and earned a Bachelor's Degree in Criminal Justice in 1971; and WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson attended the Birmingham School of Law and graduated in 1984, while working full time at the District Attorney's office; and he was elected to the Alabama State Legislature in 1994 where he served until 2014 before retiring from public service; and WHEREAS, he formally exonerated the wrongly accused Scottsboro Boys, recruited U.S. Gypsum to Bridgeport, established the Senior Rx program, sponsored the bill that created the James Martin Wildlife area and co-sponsored the 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 HJR53 EnrolledHJR53 Enrolled Page 2 bill dedicating a section of I-65 as "The Lost Highway"; and WHEREAS, Mr. Robinson was a faithful and dedicated member of St. Luke's Episcopal Church; his favorite Bible verse was Luke 12:48, "For everyone to whom much is given, much shall be required; and of him to whom men entrust much, they will require and demand all the more"; and WHEREAS, he was preceded in death by his mother, Thelma Inez Robinson, father, Horace Clay Robinson; and brother, Larry Robinson; and WHEREAS, survivors include his son, Lawson Robinson; sister, Annette Robinson and niece, Amy Robinson; and a host of other relatives and friends; and WHEREAS, although his presence will be greatly missed, the memory of Mr. Robinson will be cherished in the hearts of all who knew and loved him; now therefore; BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the death of former Representative Johnny Lawson Robinson is recorded with deep sadness, and this resolution is offered in tribute to his life and with heartfelt sympathy to his family, whose grief is shared by many. 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 48 49 HJR53 EnrolledHJR53 Enrolled Page 3 ________________________________________________ Speaker of the House of Representatives ________________________________________________ President and Presiding Officer of the Senate House of Representatives I hereby certify that the within Act originated in and was passed by the House 06-APR-23.
