HR____ COMMENDING TROOPER CHARLES MAY FOR BEING NOMINATED
FOR THE 2023 ALABAMA LAW ENFORCEMENT AGENCY LIFE SAVING
MEDAL.
WHEREAS, highest commendations are herein proudly
conveyed to Trooper Charles May for being nominated for the
2023 Alabama Law Enforcement Agency Life Saving Medal; and
WHEREAS, on January 22, 2022, Trooper May was off
duty when he was contacted by Bullock County Sergeant, Chad
Faulkner, to help locate a hunter, David Washburn, who had
been missing for several hours after being swept away in
water, which was caused by a collapsed beaver dam; Trooper
May utilized his extensive knowledge of the area and
determined that it was best to walk to the beaver dam from
County Road 156; Trooper May entered the woods, called out
for Mr. Washburn, and heard a faint call for help; Trooper
May located Mr. Washburn, who did not have any feeling in
his legs and was believed to have hypothermia; Trooper May
asked Mr. Washburn questions to assess his injuries,
replaced his wet clothing with clothing from his own body,
and carried him approximately 100 yards out of the woods and
placed him in his patrol vehicle to increase his body
temperature; after Mr. Washburn received immediate medial
treatment from paramedics, Trooper May was informed by
paramedics that Mr. Washburn indeed did have severe

hypothermia and that if he had not been located within the
next hour, he may not have survived; and
WHEREAS, Trooper May went above and beyond the call
of duty and displayed extraordinary conduct, which resulted
in saving human life; his quick and decisive actions
represent the best tradition of an Alabama State Trooper;
now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That Trooper Charles May is highly
commended for being nominated for the 2023 Alabama Law
Enforcement Agency Life Saving Medal, and we hereby dedicate
this resolution to him with utmost gratitude, admiration,
and regard.
