| 17 | 17 | Relating to Jefferson County; to further provide for | |
| 18 | 18 | the compensation of the sheriff. | |
| 19 | 19 | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: | |
| 20 | 20 | Section 1. (a) Effective beginning with the next term | |
| 21 | 21 | of office, the annual salary of the Sheriff of Jefferson | |
| 22 | 22 | County shall be an amount equal to 133 percent of the total | |
| 23 | 23 | salary paid to the highest paid employee of Jefferson County | |
| 24 | 24 | serving under the sheriff, other than the Chief Deputy Sheriff | |
| 25 | 25 | or the Assistant Sheriff, Bessemer Division. | |
| 26 | 26 | (b) If the total salary paid to the highest paid | |
| 27 | 27 | employee of Jefferson County serving under the sheriff, other | |
| 28 | 28 | than the Chief Deputy Sheriff or the Assistant Sheriff, | |
| 29 | 29 | Bessemer Division, is reduced during the incumbency of a | |
| 30 | 30 | serving sheriff, the sheriff's salary shall not automatically | |
| 31 | 31 | reduce during his or her incumbency. | |
| 32 | 32 | Section 2. This act shall become effective immediately | |
| 33 | 33 | following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its | |
| 34 | 34 | otherwise becoming law. | |
