A BILL
TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
Relating to Jefferson County; to further provide for
the compensation of the sheriff.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. (a) Effective beginning with the next term
of office, the annual salary of the Sheriff of Jefferson
County shall be an amount equal to 133 percent of the total
salary paid to the highest paid employee of Jefferson County
serving under the sheriff, other than the Chief Deputy Sheriff
or the Assistant Sheriff, Bessemer Division.
(b) If the total salary paid to the highest paid
employee of Jefferson County serving under the sheriff, other
than the Chief Deputy Sheriff or the Assistant Sheriff,
Bessemer Division, is reduced during the incumbency of a
serving sheriff, the sheriff's salary shall not automatically
reduce during his or her incumbency.
Section 2. This act shall become effective immediately
following its passage and approval by the Governor, or its
otherwise becoming law.
