Enrolled, An Act,
Relating to Blount County; to further provide for the
expense allowance and salary of the coroner; and to repeal
Section 45-6-60.1 of the Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the
salary of the coroner.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. (a) Commencing on October 1, 2024, the
Coroner of Blount County shall be entitled to an additional
expense allowance in the amount of eighteen thousand dollars
($18,000) per annum, which shall be in addition to all other
expense allowances, compensation, or salary provided by law.
This expense allowance shall be payable from the general fund
of the county.
(b) Beginning with the next term of the coroner
commencing in January 2027, the annual salary for the Coroner
of Blount County shall be thirty thousand dollars ($30,000)
per annum, payable from the general fund of the county and at
that time subsection (a) shall become void. The salary
provided in this subsection shall be in lieu of any other
salary, compensation, fees, or allowances provided to the
coroner except for any health insurance benefits provided to
the coroner.
(c) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the
coroner shall be entitled to receive the same cost-of-living
or other uniform increases in compensation granted to county
employees. Effective beginning the next term of office, the
base salary of the coroner shall be increased to reflect any
uniform increases during the prior term.

uniform increases during the prior term.
(d) The Blount County Commission may authorize the
coroner to receive reasonable and necessary expenses and
supplies, including transportation expenses, as determined by
the county commission related to the operations of the office
of coroner and the performance of duties of the coroner. The
expenses and supplies authorized by this section shall be
subject to the approval of the county commission and shall be
paid in the same manner as expenses of other county employees.
(e) The Blount County Commission may authorize the
coroner to appoint deputy coroners as needed and may provide
for the compensation of the deputies from the general fund of
the county.
Section 2. Effective on the expiration of the term of
the incumbent coroner in January 2027, Section 45-5-60.01 of
the Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the salary of the
coroner, is repealed. 
Section 3. This act shall become effective October 1,
2024.
