BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: Section 1. (a) Commencing on October 1, 2024, the Coroner of Blount County shall be entitled to an additional expense allowance in the amount of eighteen thousand dollars ($18,000) per annum, which shall be in addition to all other expense allowances, compensation, or salary provided by law. This expense allowance shall be payable from the general fund of the county. (b) Beginning with the next term of the coroner commencing in January 2027, the annual salary for the Coroner of Blount County shall be thirty thousand dollars ($30,000) per annum, payable from the general fund of the county and at that time subsection (a) shall become void. The salary provided in this subsection shall be in lieu of any other salary, compensation, fees, or allowances provided to the coroner except for any health insurance benefits provided to the coroner. (c) Notwithstanding any other provision of law, the coroner shall be entitled to receive the same cost-of-living or other uniform increases in compensation granted to county employees. (d) The Blount County Commission may authorize the coroner to receive reasonable and necessary expenses and supplies, including transportation expenses, as determined by the county commission related to the operations of the office of coroner and the performance of duties of the coroner. The expenses and supplies authorized by this section shall be subject to the approval of the county commission and shall be paid in the same manner as expenses of other county employees. (e) The Blount County Commission may authorize the coroner to appoint deputy coroners as needed and may provide for the compensation of the deputies from the general fund of the county. Section 2. Effective on the expiration of the term of the incumbent coroner in January 2027, Section 45-5-60.01 of the Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the salary of the coroner, is repealed. Section 3.
