16	18		Relating to Limestone County; to provide for the salary
17	19		of the coroner effective beginning the next term of office; to
18	20		authorize the coroner to employ assistants; to further provide
19	21		for the appointment of deputy coroners and the salary of
20	22		deputy coroners and for this purpose to amend Section 45-42-61
21	23		of the Code of Alabama 1975; and to repeal Section 45-42-60 of
22	24		the Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the coroner.
23	25		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
24	26		Section 1. (a) In Limestone County, effective beginning
25	27		the next term of office of the coroner, the salary of the
26	28		coroner shall be forty thousand dollars ($40,000) per year
27	29		payable in installments from the general fund of the county.
28	30		The salary provided by this section shall be the total
29	31		compensation of the coroner and shall be in lieu of any other
30	32		compensation, salary, expense allowance, or fees provided to
31	33		the coroner prior to the effective date of this act.
32	34		(b) The coroner, by accepting the salary provided by
33	35		this section or any expense allowance under subsection (b),
34	36		shall waive any right to any fees or mileage allowance
35	37		provided to a coroner by general law and the salary provided
36		-	by this section shall be in lieu of any fees provided by
37		-	general law.
38		-	(c) The coroner, subject to approval by the county
39		-	commission, may employee assistants to serve at the pleasure
40		-	of the coroner. The salary of any assistants employed by the
41		-	coroner shall be five hundred dollars ($500) per month.

	67	+	provided to a coroner by general law and the salary provided
	68	+	by this section shall be in lieu of any fees provided by
	69	+	general law.
	70	+	(c) The coroner, subject to approval by the county
	71	+	commission, may employee assistants to serve at the pleasure
	72	+	of the coroner. The salary of any assistants employed by the
71	73		coroner shall be five hundred dollars ($500) per month.
72	74		(d) This section shall not affect any expenses paid by
73	75		the county for the operation of the office of the coroner
74	76		pursuant to Section 45-42-62 of the Code of Alabama 1975, or
75	77		otherwise. The county commission may pay any expenses as the
76	78		county commission determines necessary for vouchered expenses
77	79		for the operation of the office of the coroner.
78	80		Section 2. Section 45-42-61 of the Code of Alabama
79	81		1975, is amended to read as follows:
80	82		"§45-42-61
81	83		In Limestone County, the county coroner , is hereby
82	84		authorized to subject to approval of the county commission,
83	85		may appoint a one or more deputy coroner coroners who shall
84	86		have the same responsibilities as the coroner when the coroner
85	87		is absent or in some way incapacitated . If the county coroner
86	88		should for any reason vacate the office, the any deputy
87	89		coroner shall serve until a successor is appointed or elected.
88	90		TheA deputy coroner is authorized to shall receive a salary of
89	91		seventy-five dollars ($75) six hundred dollars ($600) a month
90	92		to be paid out of the general fund of the county in the same
91	93		manner as other elected or appointed officials are paid. The
92	94		salary provided by this section shall be the total
93	95		compensation of any deputy coroner and shall be in lieu of any
94		-	other compensation, salary, expense allowance, or fees
95		-	provided to any deputy coroner prior to the effective date of
96		-	this act."
97		-	Section 3. (a) Section 45-20-60 of the Code of Alabama
98		-	1975, is repealed.

	129	+	Section 3. (a) Section 45-20-60 of the Code of Alabama
	130	+	1975, is repealed.
129	131		(b) Act 176 of the 1955 Regular Session (Acts 1955, p.
130	132		444) is repealed.
131	133		Section 4. This act shall become effective at the end
132	134		of the term of the current coroner.
