17+AN ACT
1618 Relating to Limestone County; to provide for the salary
1719 of the coroner effective beginning the next term of office; to
1820 authorize the coroner to employ assistants; to further provide
1921 for the appointment of deputy coroners and the salary of
2022 deputy coroners and for this purpose to amend Section 45-42-61
2123 of the Code of Alabama 1975; and to repeal Section 45-42-60 of
2224 the Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the coroner.
2325 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
2426 Section 1. (a) In Limestone County, effective beginning
2527 the next term of office of the coroner, the salary of the
2628 coroner shall be forty thousand dollars ($40,000) per year
2729 payable in installments from the general fund of the county.
2830 The salary provided by this section shall be the total
2931 compensation of the coroner and shall be in lieu of any other
3032 compensation, salary, expense allowance, or fees provided to
3133 the coroner prior to the effective date of this act.
3234 (b) The coroner, by accepting the salary provided by
3335 this section or any expense allowance under subsection (b),
3436 shall waive any right to any fees or mileage allowance
3537 provided to a coroner by general law and the salary provided
36-by this section shall be in lieu of any fees provided by
37-general law.
38-(c) The coroner, subject to approval by the county
39-commission, may employee assistants to serve at the pleasure
40-of the coroner. The salary of any assistants employed by the
41-coroner shall be five hundred dollars ($500) per month.

67+provided to a coroner by general law and the salary provided
68+by this section shall be in lieu of any fees provided by
69+general law.
70+(c) The coroner, subject to approval by the county
71+commission, may employee assistants to serve at the pleasure
72+of the coroner. The salary of any assistants employed by the
7173 coroner shall be five hundred dollars ($500) per month.
7274 (d) This section shall not affect any expenses paid by
7375 the county for the operation of the office of the coroner
7476 pursuant to Section 45-42-62 of the Code of Alabama 1975, or
7577 otherwise. The county commission may pay any expenses as the
7678 county commission determines necessary for vouchered expenses
7779 for the operation of the office of the coroner.
7880 Section 2. Section 45-42-61 of the Code of Alabama
7981 1975, is amended to read as follows:
8082 "ยง45-42-61
8183 In Limestone County, the county coroner , is hereby
8284 authorized to subject to approval of the county commission,
8385 may appoint a one or more deputy coroner coroners who shall
8486 have the same responsibilities as the coroner when the coroner
8587 is absent or in some way incapacitated . If the county coroner
8688 should for any reason vacate the office, the any deputy
8789 coroner shall serve until a successor is appointed or elected.
8890 TheA deputy coroner is authorized to shall receive a salary of
8991 seventy-five dollars ($75) six hundred dollars ($600) a month
9092 to be paid out of the general fund of the county in the same
9193 manner as other elected or appointed officials are paid. The
9294 salary provided by this section shall be the total
9395 compensation of any deputy coroner and shall be in lieu of any
94-other compensation, salary, expense allowance, or fees
95-provided to any deputy coroner prior to the effective date of
96-this act."
97-Section 3. (a) Section 45-20-60 of the Code of Alabama
98-1975, is repealed.
99-(b) Act 176 of the 1955 Regular Session (Acts 1955, p.

129+Section 3. (a) Section 45-20-60 of the Code of Alabama

129131 (b) Act 176 of the 1955 Regular Session (Acts 1955, p.

131133 Section 4. This act shall become effective at the end
