Enrolled, An Act,
Relating to Limestone County; to provide for the salary
of the coroner effective beginning the next term of office; to
authorize the coroner to employ assistants; to further provide
for the appointment of deputy coroners and the salary of
deputy coroners and for this purpose to amend Section 45-42-61
of the Code of Alabama 1975; and to repeal Section 45-42-60 of
the Code of Alabama 1975, relating to the coroner.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. (a) In Limestone County, effective beginning
the next term of office of the coroner, the salary of the
coroner shall be forty thousand dollars ($40,000) per year
payable in installments from the general fund of the county.
The salary provided by this section shall be the total
compensation of the coroner and shall be in lieu of any other
compensation, salary, expense allowance, or fees provided to
the coroner prior to the effective date of this act.
(b) The coroner, by accepting the salary provided by
this section or any expense allowance under subsection (b),
shall waive any right to any fees or mileage allowance
provided to a coroner by general law and the salary provided
by this section shall be in lieu of any fees provided by
general law.
(c) The coroner, subject to approval by the county
commission, may employee assistants to serve at the pleasure
of the coroner. The salary of any assistants employed by the
coroner shall be five hundred dollars ($500) per month.

coroner shall be five hundred dollars ($500) per month.
(d) This section shall not affect any expenses paid by
the county for the operation of the office of the coroner
pursuant to Section 45-42-62 of the Code of Alabama 1975, or
otherwise. The county commission may pay any expenses as the
county commission determines necessary for vouchered expenses
for the operation of the office of the coroner.  
Section 2. Section 45-42-61 of the Code of Alabama
1975, is amended to read as follows:
"ยง45-42-61
In Limestone County, the county coroner , is hereby
authorized to subject to approval of the county commission,
may appoint a one or more deputy coroner coroners who shall
have the same responsibilities as the coroner when the coroner
is absent or in some way incapacitated . If the county coroner
should for any reason vacate the office, the any deputy
coroner shall serve until a successor is appointed or elected.
TheA deputy coroner is authorized to shall receive a salary of
seventy-five dollars ($75) six hundred dollars ($600) a month
to be paid out of the general fund of the county in the same
manner as other elected or appointed officials are paid. The
salary provided by this section shall be the total
compensation of any deputy coroner and shall be in lieu of any
other compensation, salary, expense allowance, or fees
provided to any deputy coroner prior to the effective date of
this act."
Section 3. (a) Section 45-20-60 of the Code of Alabama
1975, is repealed.
(b) Act 176 of the 1955 Regular Session (Acts 1955, p.

(b) Act 176 of the 1955 Regular Session (Acts 1955, p.
444) is repealed.
Section 4. This act shall become effective at the end
of the term of the current coroner.
