16 | 16 | | WHEREAS, it is with profound sadness that we note the |
---|
17 | 17 | | death on March 22, 2024, of Robert D. "Bobby" Timmons of |
---|
18 | 18 | | Prattville, Alabama, at the age of 91 years; and |
---|
19 | 19 | | WHEREAS, his passing leaves a void in the lives of |
---|
20 | 20 | | his loving family, many friends, and the entire community |
---|
21 | 21 | | where he was highly regarded; and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Timmons served as the Executive |
---|
23 | 23 | | Director of the Alabama Sheriffs Association from 1975-2022 |
---|
24 | 24 | | starting in Prattville, Alabama; he relocated the office to |
---|
25 | 25 | | Montgomery, Alabama, to be near the Capitol where the office |
---|
26 | 26 | | stands today in his name; and |
---|
27 | 27 | | WHEREAS, he was born in 1932 and reared in Ensley, |
---|
28 | 28 | | Alabama; he married Emily in 1964 and they settled in |
---|
29 | 29 | | Hoover, Alabama, while he traveled the highway to and from |
---|
30 | 30 | | Montgomery for many years until he relocated to Montgomery; |
---|
31 | 31 | | and |
---|
32 | 32 | | WHEREAS, prior to the Alabama Sheriffs Association, |
---|
33 | 33 | | Mr. Timmons served in the House of Representatives from |
---|
34 | 34 | | 1970-1974; he also served as a Special Assistant to the |
---|
35 | 35 | | Jefferson County Sheriff Mel Bailey; he traveled with former |
---|
36 | 36 | | Governor George Wallace during his presidential campaign and |
---|
37 | 37 | | worked with him on numerous legislative issues while Wallace |
---|
38 | 38 | | was Governor; he was appointed as the Law Enforcement |
---|

73 | 73 | | National Sheriffs' Association and at one point was the |

74 | 74 | | oldest living member; he certainly treasured the Office of |

75 | 75 | | Sheriff; and |

76 | 76 | | WHEREAS, he enjoyed his "Bobby Days" and "Bobby |
---|
77 | 77 | | Time"; he did not have many of those, until retirement, but |
---|
78 | 78 | | that was his choice; he worked seven days a week and almost |
---|
79 | 79 | | 24 hours a day; he loved it that much; he did so many other |
---|
80 | 80 | | important and treasured things in life that there is just |
---|
81 | 81 | | not enough time or paper to say them all; and |
---|
82 | 82 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Timmons is survived by his son, Todd; |
---|
83 | 83 | | daughter, Leslie (Chris); granddaughters, Ensley, Valorie |
---|
84 | 84 | | (Dany), Ashley (Nick), and Alicia; grandson, Brandon |
---|
85 | 85 | | (Natalie); great-grandchildren, Bryant, Hunter, Sydney, and |
---|
86 | 86 | | Ryan; and a host of other relatives and friends; and |
---|
87 | 87 | | WHEREAS, although his presence will be greatly |
---|
88 | 88 | | missed, the memory of Mr. Timmons will be cherished in the |
---|
89 | 89 | | hearts of all who knew and loved him; now therefore, |
---|
90 | 90 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

91 | 91 | | LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Robert D. "Bobby" |

92 | 92 | | Timmons is recorded by Representatives Warren and Shaver |
---|
93 | 93 | | with deep sadness, and this resolution is offered in tribute |

94 | 94 | | to his life and with heartfelt sympathy to his family, whose |
