HR____ COMMENDING DR. JULIA SULLIVAN NELSON ON HER
RETIREMENT.
WHEREAS, highest commendations and congratulations
are herein proudly presented to Dr. Julia Sullivan Nelson
for outstanding professional achievement on the occasion of
her retirement; and 
WHEREAS, Dr. Nelson attended Burroughs Elementary
School and graduated from St. Elmo High School; she 
attended Bishop State Junior College where she earned an
Associate Degree in Business Administration; later she
attended the University of South Alabama where she earned a
Bachelor of Science Degree in Elementary Education, a Master
of Education, and an Educational Specialist Degree; she
received her Doctor of Education from Nova Southeastern
University; and 
WHEREAS, Dr. Nelson began her educational journey at
Orchard Elementary school as a first-grade teacher with the
extraordinary vision of excellence with Lyndell Dillard; in
1999, she was given the opportunity to serve as assistant
principal under Ms. Dianne Langley for two years as she
developed life skills that would soar her to higher heights;
and 
WHEREAS, in 2001, she was placed at Burroughs
Elementary School as the principal; her tenure has lasted

Elementary School as the principal; her tenure has lasted 
for 23 years; Dr. Nelson demonstrated an impeccable work
ethic, endless vision of excellence, and the determination
of an eagle; and
WHEREAS, in her commitment to her school, church, and
community, she is most grateful for the opportunity to give
back to her neighborhood school, community, and church;
throughout her journey, Dr. Nelson's unfailing faith and
love remains with her God and her family; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nelson is married to Mr. Henry L. Nelson
and together they have three sons, Pedro B. (Alice), Jamaal,
and Ramon Nelson; they have 11 beautiful grandchildren and
six adorable great-grandchildren; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Nelson is grateful for her hardworking
parents who taught her the value of hard work; her
unwavering faith in God has sustained her throughout her
journey and will continue to do so; now therefore, 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That on the occasion of her
retirement and in recognition of her distinguished career,
highest commendation is hereby conveyed to Dr. Julia
Sullivan Nelson, for whom a copy of this resolution is
provided in admiration and appreciation, along with best
wishes for the future.
