22+This bill would prohibit public K-12 schools
23+from taking certain actions in regard to a dependent
24+child of an active duty military parent.
25+This bill would also prohibit public K-12
26+schools from membership in an athletic association that
27+takes these same actions.

2330 AN ACT
2431 Relating to public K-12 schools; to prohibit public
2532 K-12 schools from taking certain actions regarding dependent
2633 children of active duty military parents; and to prohibit
2734 public K-12 schools from membership in athletic associations
2835 that take these same actions.
2936 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
3037 Section 1. (a) For the purposes of this section, the
3138 term "athletic association" means any athletic organization
3239 operating in this state that has authority over its member
3340 institutions' athletic programs, that receives public funds in
3441 any form, and whose member institutions make use of public
3542 facilities.
36-(b)(1) No public K-12 school may deny a dependent child
37-of a full-time active duty military parent immediate
38-eligibility to participate in an interscholastic athletic
39-contest on the basis of the child enrolling in a new school
40-due to the child and his or her parent making a bona fide move
41-pursuant to permanent change of station orders received by the
42-parent, regardless of the date upon which the child enrolls in
43-the new school within the school attendance zone of the bona

73+(b)(1) No public K-12 school may deny, nor be a member

7583 (2) A public K-12 school and an athletic association
7684 may require a parent to provide his or her permanent change of
7785 station orders to substantiate a bona fide move that
7886 necessitates a child's enrollment in a new school.
7987 Section 2. This act shall become effective on October
