A BILL TO BE ENACTED AN ACT Relating to any Class 3 municipality organized under Act 618 of the 1973 Regular Session (Acts 1973, p. 879), providing for the mayor-council form of government in certain municipalities having a certain population according to the 1970 or any subsequent federal decennial census; to amend Sections 45-51A-33.54 and 45-51A-33.93, Code of Alabama 1975, to further provide for the salary and expense allowance of the city council and mayor. BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: Section 1. This act shall apply only to any Class 3 municipality organized under Act 618 of the 1973 Regular Session (Acts 1973, p. 879). Section 2. Such salary and the manner in which it is to be paid, shall be established by the council. In no event shall the council set the annual salary of the council below eight thousand five hundred dollars ($8,500) or above eighteen thousand dollars ($18,000). (b) Effective October 1, 2024, in addition to the salary authorized in subsection (a), the council shall receive an additional annual expense allowance in the amount of twelve thousand dollars ($12,000) per year, payable in the same manner as the salary authorized in subsection (a). (c) Effective at the beginning of the 2027 term, the council shall receive an annual salary of thirty thousand dollars ($30,000) per year and subsections (a) and (b) shall be void and of no effect. " "§45-51A-33.93 (a) Commencing with the 1995 term, the mayor shall receive such salary as the council, by resolution or ordinance, may prescribe. Such salary and the manner in which it is to be paid, shall be established by the council. In no event shall the council set the annual salary of the mayor below fifty thousand dollars ($50,000) or above ninety-five thousand dollars ($95,000). (c) Effective at the beginning of the 2027 term, the mayor shall receive an annual salary of one hundred fifty thousand dollars ($150,000) per year and subsections (a) and (b) shall be void and of no effect.
