16	18		Relating to public education; to add Section 16-23-25
17	19		to the Code of Alabama 1975; to provide certain certified
18	20		teachers who previously worked as a paraprofessional or
19	21		classroom teacher's aide with experience credit on the local
20	22		salary schedule.
21	23		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
22	24		Section 1. Section 16-23-25 is added to the Code of
23	25		Alabama 1975, to read as follows:
24	26		§16-23-25
25	27		(a) A teacher with at least four years of full-time
26	28		experience as a paraprofessional or classroom teacher's aide
27	29		in a public school who is: (i) issued a teacher certificate
28	30		pursuant to this chapter; and (ii) hired into a position
29	31		requiring such certification, shall receive one year of
30	32		experience credit on the local teacher salary schedule
31	33		established pursuant to Section 16-13-231.1 for every two
32	34		years of full-time experience that he or she earned in a
33	35		public school as a paraprofessional or classroom teacher's
34	36		aide prior to being hired as a certified teacher.
35	37		(b) This section shall only apply to teachers hired
36		-	into a position requiring teacher certification on or after
37		-	June 1, 2024.
38		-	Section 2. This act shall become effective on June 1,
