16	18		Relating to the City of Jacksonville in Calhoun County;
17	19		to amend Section 45-8A-70, Code of Alabama 1975; to revise the
18	20		election date for members of the Board of Education of the
19	21		City of Jacksonville.
20	22		BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
21	23		Section 1. Section 45-8A-70, Code of Alabama 1975, is
22	24		amended to read as follows:
23	25		"§45-8A-70
24	26		(a)(1) The members of the Board of Education of the
25	27		City of Jacksonville in Calhoun County shall serve extended
26	28		terms until the day before the first Monday in October after
27	29		the election to elect their successors. of either the year
28	30		2000, the year 2002, or the year 2004, as provided below:
29	31		Place 4 YEAR 2000
30	32		Place 5 YEAR 2000
31	33		Place 1 YEAR 2002
32	34		Place 2 YEAR 2002
33	35		Place 3 YEAR 2004
34	36		a. Elections for Place 3, Place 4, and Place 5 shall
35		-	coincide with the City of Jacksonville municipal elections.
36		-	b. Elections for Place 1 and Place 2 shall occur two
37		-	years following the elections held pursuant to paragraph a.
38		-	(2) Future members of the board shall take office on
39		-	the first Monday in October following their election and shall

	65	+	a. Elections for Place 3, Place 4, and Place 5 shall
	66	+	coincide with the City of Jacksonville municipal elections.
	67	+	b. Elections for Place 1 and Place 2 shall occur two
	68	+	years following the elections held pursuant to paragraph a.
	69	+	(2) Future members of the board shall take office on
67	70		the first Monday in October following their election and shall
68	71		serve four-year terms.
69	72		(b) The election of the members of the Board of
70	73		Education of the City of Jacksonville shall be held in even
71	74		years to fill vacancies upon the expiration of the terms as
72	75		provided in subsection (a) and shall be conducted in the same
73	76		manner as elections for members of the city governing body."
74	77		Section 2. This act shall become effective on June 1,
75	78		2024.
