BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: Section 1. Section 45-8A-70, Code of Alabama 1975, is amended to read as follows: "ยง45-8A-70 (a)(1) The members of the Board of Education of the City of Jacksonville in Calhoun County shall serve extended terms until the day before the first Monday in October after the election to elect their successors. of either the year 2000, the year 2002, or the year 2004, as provided below: Place 4 YEAR 2000 Place 5 YEAR 2000 Place 1 YEAR 2002 Place 2 YEAR 2002 Place 3 YEAR 2004 a. Elections for Place 3, Place 4, and Place 5 shall coincide with the City of Jacksonville municipal elections. b. Elections for Place 1 and Place 2 shall occur two years following the elections held pursuant to paragraph a. (b) The election of the members of the Board of Education of the City of Jacksonville shall be held in even years to fill vacancies upon the expiration of the terms as provided in subsection (a) and shall be conducted in the same manner as elections for members of the city governing body."
