34 | 34 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: |

35 | 35 | | Section 1. (a) At the beginning of each school year, |
---|
36 | 36 | | and no later than 30 calendar days after a new or revised |
---|
37 | 37 | | curriculum is adopted, the local superintendent of education |
---|
38 | 38 | | and local board of education shall verify that each school |
---|
39 | 39 | | under the jurisdiction of the board has posted current adopted |
---|
40 | 40 | | curricula for each class on the website of the school. Access |
---|
41 | 41 | | to the online curricula shall be made available to students, |
---|
42 | 42 | | parents, or guardians of enrolled students through the school |
---|
43 | 43 | | website. If a school has no accessible website, the curricula |
---|
44 | 44 | | shall be posted on the website of the local board of education |
---|
45 | 45 | | or the State Department of Education. |

86 | 86 | | (2) If a parent or guardian would like further |

87 | 87 | | information regarding how the instructional materials relate |
---|
88 | 88 | | to the content standards adopted by the State Board of |
---|
89 | 89 | | Education or to physically examine any instructional materials |
---|
90 | 90 | | used in the classroom, the parent or guardian may request that |
---|
91 | 91 | | the local board of educational allow that examination at the |
---|
92 | 92 | | next work session of the board. The board shall notify the |
---|
93 | 93 | | parent or guardian and the teacher of the issues involved and |
---|
94 | 94 | | the date and time of the next work session. |
---|
95 | 95 | | (c) For any class in which reading books is required, |
---|
96 | 96 | | the classroom teacher shall include the titles of the books on |
---|
97 | 97 | | a class syllabus. Upon the request of the parent or guardian |
---|
98 | 98 | | of a child enrolled in the class, the classroom teacher shall |
---|
99 | 99 | | make the syllabus available to the parent or guardian. |
---|
100 | 100 | | (d) If a classroom teacher fails to comply with this |
---|
101 | 101 | | section, the parent or guardian may file a complaint with the |
---|
102 | 102 | | local superintendent of education on a form developed and |
---|
103 | 103 | | provided by the local superintendent of education. If the |

140 | 140 | | (e)(1) On or before September 1 annually, each local |

141 | 141 | | superintendent of education shall report the number of |

142 | 142 | | complaints filed with him or her during the previous school |
---|
143 | 143 | | year to the State Superintendent of Education. On or before |
---|
144 | 144 | | October 1 annually, the State Superintendent of Education |
---|
145 | 145 | | shall report the total number of complaints filed during the |
---|
146 | 146 | | previous school year, statewide and by county, to the Chairs |
---|
147 | 147 | | of the Senate Education Policy Committee and the House of |
---|
148 | 148 | | Representatives Education Policy Committee. |
