3029 WHEREAS, we join the students, coaches, parents, and
3130 faculty at Jasper High School in celebrating the Girls
3231 Basketball Team's Alabama High School Athletic Association
3332 (AHSAA) Class 5A State Basketball Championship; and
3433 WHEREAS, on March 2, 2024, at the BJCC Legacy Arena
3534 in Birmingham, the Jasper High School Girls Basketball Team
3635 defied expectations by securing their first State Title in
3736 the program's history with a 48-44 victory over Scottsboro
3837 High School; and
3938 WHEREAS, senior Mia Hollingsworth earned tournament
4039 MVP honors and was instrumental in the team's victory after
4140 finishing with 16 points, five rebounds, two assists, and
4241 two steals; she scored the go-ahead basket on a layup,
4342 drawing a foul on the play, and converted the and-1
4443 opportunity to push the lead with 4:01 remaining in the
4544 game; and
4645 WHEREAS, other notable standouts were sophomore Missy
4746 Odom who tied Mia Hollingsworth for a team-high with 16
4847 points, adding seven rebounds, two steals, and two blocked
4948 shots; senior Hallie Harrell added 12 points and seven

8382 Odom, and Idaysia Mercer were honored with selection for the
8483 Class 5A Girls All-Tourney Team; and
8584 WHEREAS, the Jasper High School Girls Basketball
8685 Program has been superbly coached and inspired by Head
8786 Varsity Coach Blake Laney and Assistant Coaches Vess
8887 Hollingsworth and Jackee Key; under their leadership the
8988 players have broadened their knowledge of the game, refined
9089 their skills in execution, and furthered the tradition of
9190 superior play and true sportsmanship; and
9291 WHEREAS, the 2023-2024 Jasper High School Girls
9392 Basketball team ended the season with an overall record of
9493 31-4, which is the second-most wins in school history; they
9594 distinctively broke the AHSAA State record by completing 22
9695 three-shots made in a single game; went 6-0 in 5A Area 10
9796 play; are the Regular Season 5A Area 10 Champions and the
9897 Northwest Regional Champions; their successes reflect their
9998 resiliency and ability to exceed expectations; they have
10099 proven that determination and strategic gameplay can lead to
101100 excellence; and
102101 WHEREAS, the 2023-2024 Jasper High School Girls
103102 Championship roster includes seniors, Idaysia Mercer,
104103 Jakayla Kirk, Hallie Harrell, Ally Grace Salors, and Mia
105104 Hollingsworth; Sophomores, Marianna Rigsby, DeCaleigh
106105 Calvin, and Missy Odom; Freshmen, Gracen Norris and Emma Lou
