27	26		GIRLS BASKETBALL TEAM AND COACHES UPON WINNING THE ALABAMA
28	27		HIGH SCHOOL ATHLETIC ASSOCIATION 5A STATE BASKETBALL
29	28		CHAMPIONSHIP.
30	29		WHEREAS, we join the students, coaches, parents, and
31	30		faculty at Jasper High School in celebrating the Girls
32	31		Basketball Team's Alabama High School Athletic Association
33	32		(AHSAA) Class 5A State Basketball Championship; and
34	33		WHEREAS, on March 2, 2024, at the BJCC Legacy Arena
35	34		in Birmingham, the Jasper High School Girls Basketball Team
36	35		defied expectations by securing their first State Title in
37	36		the program's history with a 48-44 victory over Scottsboro
38	37		High School; and
39	38		WHEREAS, senior Mia Hollingsworth earned tournament
40	39		MVP honors and was instrumental in the team's victory after
41	40		finishing with 16 points, five rebounds, two assists, and
42	41		two steals; she scored the go-ahead basket on a layup,
43	42		drawing a foul on the play, and converted the and-1
44	43		opportunity to push the lead with 4:01 remaining in the
45	44		game; and
46	45		WHEREAS, other notable standouts were sophomore Missy
47	46		Odom who tied Mia Hollingsworth for a team-high with 16
48	47		points, adding seven rebounds, two steals, and two blocked
49	48		shots; senior Hallie Harrell added 12 points and seven

80	79		rebounds; senior Idaysia Mercer produced only 2 points, but
81	80		dished out 4 assists with only 1 turnover; and
82	81		WHEREAS, student athletes Mia Hollingsworth, Missy
83	82		Odom, and Idaysia Mercer were honored with selection for the
84	83		Class 5A Girls All-Tourney Team; and
85	84		WHEREAS, the Jasper High School Girls Basketball
86	85		Program has been superbly coached and inspired by Head
87	86		Varsity Coach Blake Laney and Assistant Coaches Vess
88	87		Hollingsworth and Jackee Key; under their leadership the
89	88		players have broadened their knowledge of the game, refined
90	89		their skills in execution, and furthered the tradition of
91	90		superior play and true sportsmanship; and
92	91		WHEREAS, the 2023-2024 Jasper High School Girls
93	92		Basketball team ended the season with an overall record of
94	93		31-4, which is the second-most wins in school history; they
95	94		distinctively broke the AHSAA State record by completing 22
96	95		three-shots made in a single game; went 6-0 in 5A Area 10
97	96		play; are the Regular Season 5A Area 10 Champions and the
98	97		Northwest Regional Champions; their successes reflect their
99	98		resiliency and ability to exceed expectations; they have
100	99		proven that determination and strategic gameplay can lead to
101	100		excellence; and
102	101		WHEREAS, the 2023-2024 Jasper High School Girls
103	102		Championship roster includes seniors, Idaysia Mercer,
104	103		Jakayla Kirk, Hallie Harrell, Ally Grace Salors, and Mia
105	104		Hollingsworth; Sophomores, Marianna Rigsby, DeCaleigh
106	105		Calvin, and Missy Odom; Freshmen, Gracen Norris and Emma Lou
107	106		Franks; and 8th Grader, Sara Katherine Bonner; now
