SYNOPSIS:
Under existing law, certain individuals serving
a term of confinement are eligible for temporary
release programs such as work release.
This bill would provide that an individual
serving a term of confinement due to a conviction for
murder is not eligible for any temporary release
program.
A BILL
TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
Relating to criminal corrections; to provide that
certain individuals are not eligible for temporary release
programs.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. An inmate serving a term of confinement due
to a conviction for murder pursuant to Section 13A-6-2, Code
of Alabama 1975, shall not be eligible for any temporary
release program authorized under Article 1 of Chapter 8 of
Title 14 of the Code of Alabama 1975.
Section 2. A county inmate or state inmate serving a
term of confinement due to a conviction for murder pursuant to

term of confinement due to a conviction for murder pursuant to
Section 13A-6-2, Code of Alabama 1975, shall not be eligible
for any temporary release program authorized under Article 2
of Chapter 8 of Title 14 of the Code of Alabama 1975.
Section 3. An inmate serving a term of confinement due
to a conviction for murder pursuant to Section 13A-6-2, Code
of Alabama 1975, shall not be eligible for any temporary
release program authorized under Article 3 of Chapter 8 of
Title 14 of the Code of Alabama 1975.
Section 4. This act shall become effective on October
1, 2025.
