15+SYNOPSIS:
16+Under existing law, public school buses are
17+required to transport community college and trade
18+school students under certain circumstances.
19+This bill would repeal that law.

18-Relating to public school buses; to amend Section
19-16-27-1, Code of Alabama 1975, to require local boards of
20-education to adopt policies regarding the transportation of
21-dual enrollment and other students to offsite educational
22-venues; and to repeal Section 16-27-2, Code of Alabama 1975,
23-requiring the buses to transport community college and trade
24-school students under certain circumstances.

2527 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
26-Section 1. Section 16-27-1 of the Code of Alabama 1975,
27-is amended to read as follows:
28-"ยง16-27-1
29-The State Board of Education shall prescribe adopt
30-rules and regulations :
31-(1) Requiring all local boards of education which
32-provide transportation services for pupils students going to
33-and from public elementary and secondary schools of Alabama or
34-in school-related activities , and the presidents of all state
35-community, junior and technical colleges and directors of all
36-state technical institutes and trade schools which provide
37-transportation services for pupils going to and from said

32+Section 2. This act shall become effective on June 1,

67-transportation services for pupils going to and from said
68-technical institutes and trade schools or community, junior
69-and technical colleges to employ a competent supervisor or
70-manager of such the transportation services, whether such the
71-transportation services are provided in publicly owned or
72-privately owned buses;
73-(2) Requiring periodic safety inspection of all
74-vehicles used for transporting pupils students, whether such
75-the vehicles are publicly or privately owned;
76-(3) Requiring and providing for special training and
77-licensing of drivers of all vehicles used to transport pupils
78-students to and from school and in all school-related
79-activities, whether such the vehicles are publicly owned and
80-operated or operated under contract with a private owner .; and
81-(4) Requiring each local board of education to adopt a
82-policy regarding transportation services available for
83-enrolled students including, but not limited to, dual
84-enrollment students at community and technical college
85-campuses or other offsite educational venues, and students
86-attending career technical education centers. "
87-Section 2. Section 16-27-2 of the Code of Alabama 1975,
88-requiring public school buses to provide transportation to
89-community college and trade school students under certain
90-circumstances, is repealed.
91-Section 3. This act shall become effective on June 1,
92-2025.
