A BILL
TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
Relating to Fayette County; to amend Section 45-29-230,
Code of Alabama 1975; to further provide for the compensation
of the sheriff.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. Section 45-29-230, Code of Alabama 1975, is
amended to read as follows:
"ยง45-29-230
(a) The Sheriff of Fayette County shall receive an
additional expense allowance of ten thousand dollars ($10,000)
per year, payable in equal monthly installments from the
general fund of the county. The expense allowance shall be in
addition to all other compensation, expense allowances, or
benefits granted to the sheriff.
(b) Beginning with the next term of office, the expense
allowance paid to the sheriff as provided in subsection (a)
shall be null and void. In lieu thereof, the sheriff shall
receive a salary of sixty thousand dollars ($60,000) per year
payable in equal monthly installments from the county general
fund.
(a) Until January 18, 2027, the Sheriff of Fayette

(a) Until January 18, 2027, the Sheriff of Fayette
County shall continue to receive the same base annual salary
the sheriff is receiving on September 30, 2025.
(b) Beginning October 1, 2025, in addition to the base
salary authorized in subsection (a), the sheriff shall receive
an expense allowance of twenty thousand dollars ($20,000) per
annum, payable in equal monthly installments from the county
general fund.
(c) Beginning January 18, 2027, the sheriff's base
salary shall be eighty thousand dollars ($80,000) per annum
and the salary and expense allowance authorized in subsections
(a) and (b) are void. "
Section 2. This act shall become effective on October
1, 2025.
