| 16 | 16 | | Under existing law, a person charged with and |

| 17 | 17 | | arrested for a felony has an absolute right to a |

| 18 | 18 | | preliminary hearing before his or her indictment. |

| 19 | 19 | | This bill would provide that a pretrial |

| 20 | 20 | | detention hearing held for a person charged with one of |
|---|
| 21 | 21 | | the offenses listed under Aniah's Law shall satisfy a |
|---|
| 22 | 22 | | defendant's right to a pretrial hearing. |

| 27 | 27 | | 15-11-1, Code of Alabama 1975, to further provide for |

| 29 | 29 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: |

| 30 | 30 | | Section 1. Section 15-11-1, Code of Alabama 1975, is |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | amended to read as follows: |

|---|
| 33 | 33 | | (a) Every person charged with and arrested for a felony |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | before his or her indictment shall have an absolute right to a |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | preliminary hearing on said the charge upon such person's his |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | or her demand within 30 days following said the arrest; |
