1515 SYNOPSIS:
1616 Under existing law, a person charged with and
1717 arrested for a felony has an absolute right to a
1818 preliminary hearing before his or her indictment.
1919 This bill would provide that a pretrial
2020 detention hearing held for a person charged with one of
2121 the offenses listed under Aniah's Law shall satisfy a
2222 defendant's right to a pretrial hearing.

2626 Relating to criminal procedure; to amend Section
2727 15-11-1, Code of Alabama 1975, to further provide for
2828 preliminary hearings.
2929 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
3030 Section 1. Section 15-11-1, Code of Alabama 1975, is
3131 amended to read as follows:
3232 "ยง15-11-1
3333 (a) Every person charged with and arrested for a felony
3434 before his or her indictment shall have an absolute right to a
3535 preliminary hearing on said the charge upon such person's his
3636 or her demand within 30 days following said the arrest;

7575 Section 2. This act shall become effective on October
7676 1, 2025.
