26 | 26 | | Relating to pet care; to require persons operating |
---|
27 | 27 | | certain dog or cat boarding and grooming facilities to have a |
---|
28 | 28 | | licensed veterinarian or licensed veterinary technician at the |
---|
29 | 29 | | facility; and to provide civil penalties for violations. |

30 | 30 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: |

31 | 31 | | Section 1. (a) For the purposes of this section, the |
---|
32 | 32 | | following terms have the following meanings: |
---|
33 | 33 | | (1) BOARDING FACILITY. Any place of business where the |
---|
34 | 34 | | commercial boarding, confinement, or otherwise keeping of at |
---|
35 | 35 | | least 100 dogs or cats may occur. |
---|
36 | 36 | | (2) CAT. Any domesticated member of Felis catus. |
---|

70 | 70 | | commercial grooming of dogs or cats occurs that employs at |

71 | 71 | | least 20 individuals in a calendar year. |

72 | 72 | | (5)LICENSED VETERINARIAN. The term as defined in |
---|
73 | 73 | | Section 34-29-61, Code of Alabama 1975. |
---|
74 | 74 | | (6)LICENSED VETERINARY TECHNICIAN . The term as defined |
---|
75 | 75 | | in Section 34-29-61, Code of Alabama 1975. |
---|
76 | 76 | | (b) A person may not operate a boarding facility or |
---|
77 | 77 | | grooming facility in this state without a licensed |
---|
78 | 78 | | veterinarian or licensed veterinary technician at the facility |
---|
79 | 79 | | during business hours who is capable of advising on and |
---|
80 | 80 | | providing proper care to a dog or cat under the custody, |
---|
81 | 81 | | control, or care of the facility. |
---|
82 | 82 | | (c) The Department of Agriculture and Industries shall |
---|
83 | 83 | | enforce this section and shall levy a fine of not less than |
---|
84 | 84 | | five hundred dollars ($500) per violation. |
---|
85 | 85 | | Section 2. This act shall become effective on October |
---|
86 | 86 | | 1, 2025. |
