20	20	Relating to Madison County; to amend Section
21	21	45-45-230.01, Code of Alabama 1975, to further provide for the
22	22	compensation of the sheriff.
23	23	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
24	24	Section 1. Section 45-45-230.01, Code of Alabama 1975,
25	25	is amended to read as follows:
26	26	"§45-45-230.01
27	27	(a) Commencing with the next term of office beginning
28	28	in January of 1999, the Sheriff of Madison County shall
29	29	receive an annual salary of seventy thousand dollars
30	30	($70,000)Any newly-elected Sheriff of Madison County shall
31	31	receive a base salary of one hundred seventy thousand dollars
32	32	($170,000) per year, effective as of the first full pay period
33	33	after the start of the newly-elected sheriff's first term in
34	34	office, which begins on the first Monday after the second
35	35	Tuesday of January next after the sheriff's election pursuant
36	36	to Section 36-3-4 .
37	37	(b) After serving a first full four-year term in
38	38	office, if the sheriff is re-elected to a second successive
39	39	term, the sheriff shall receive a 7.5 percent salary increase,

69	69	term, the sheriff shall receive a 7.5 percent salary increase,
70	70	effective as of the first full pay period after the start of
71	71	the sheriff's second successive term, which begins on the
72	72	first Monday after the second Tuesday of January next after
73	73	the sheriff's selection pursuant to Section 36-3-4.
74	74	(c) After serving a second full four-year term in
75	75	office, if the sheriff is re-elected to any successive term,
76	76	then the sheriff shall receive an increase in the sheriff's
77	77	then-existing salary in the amount of 7.5 percent, effective
78	78	as of the first full pay period after the start of each
79	79	successive term, which begins on the first Monday after the
80	80	second Tuesday of January next after the sheriff's election
81	81	pursuant to Section 36-3-4.
82	82	(d) If the sheriff is elected to a non-successive term,
83	83	the sheriff shall receive a salary of one hundred seventy
84	84	thousand dollars ($170,00) per year, effective as of the first
85	85	full pay period after the start of the sheriff's
86	86	non-successive term which begins on the first Monday after the
87	87	second Tuesday of January next after the sheriff's election
88	88	pursuant to Section 36-3-4. Thereafter, if the sheriff serves
89	89	a full non-successive four-year term and is re-elected to a
90	90	successive term, the sheriff shall receive a 7.5 percent
91	91	salary increase. Subsequently, the sheriff shall receive an
92	92	increase in the sheriff's then-existing salary in the amount
93	93	of 7.5 percent for any successive term to which the sheriff is
94	94	re-elected, effective as of the first full pay period after
95	95	the start of the sheriff's successive term.
96	96	(e) During each term in office, the sheriff shall
97	97	receive benefits regularly provided to employees of the

127	127	receive benefits regularly provided to employees of the
128	128	Madison County Commission, but shall not receive any
129	129	cost-of-living compensation increases.
130	130	(f) Other than as specified in this section, the
131	131	sheriff shall receive no other increases in compensation.
132	132	(g) The following shall apply to the individual serving
133	133	as sheriff on June 1, 2025:
134	134	(1) Beginning June 1, 2025, he or she shall receive an
135	135	increase in salary from his or her current compensation of one
136	136	hundred fifty-four thousand eighty-six dollars and forty cents
137	137	($154,086.40) per year to one hundred seventy thousand dollars
138	138	($170,000) per year.
139	139	(2) He or she shall also receive a 7.5 percent salary
140	140	increase for serving a second successive term in office,
141	141	resulting in a salary of one hundred eighty-two thousand seven
142	142	hundred fifty dollars ($182,750) per year.
143	143	(3) Thereafter, if re-elected to a successive term, he
144	144	or she shall receive an increase in his or her then-existing
145	145	salary in the amount of 7.5 percent effective as of the first
146	146	full pay period after the start of his or her successive term.
147	147	(4) The provisions of this subsection shall be void
148	148	when the individual serving as sheriff on June 1, 2025, ceases
149	149	to serve as sheriff.
150	150	(b) The Sheriff of Madison County shall not receive any
151	151	monetary compensation of any kind other than reimbursements
152	152	for itemized expenses and other than the annual salary set
153	153	forth herein. "
154	154	Section 2. This act shall become effective on June 1,
155	155	2025.
