1919 AN ACT
2020 Relating to Madison County; to amend Section
2121 45-45-230.01, Code of Alabama 1975, to further provide for the
2222 compensation of the sheriff.
2323 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
2424 Section 1. Section 45-45-230.01, Code of Alabama 1975,
2525 is amended to read as follows:
2626 "ยง45-45-230.01
2727 (a) Commencing with the next term of office beginning
2828 in January of 1999, the Sheriff of Madison County shall
2929 receive an annual salary of seventy thousand dollars
3030 ($70,000)Any newly-elected Sheriff of Madison County shall
3131 receive a base salary of one hundred seventy thousand dollars
3232 ($170,000) per year, effective as of the first full pay period
3333 after the start of the newly-elected sheriff's first term in
3434 office, which begins on the first Monday after the second
3535 Tuesday of January next after the sheriff's election pursuant
3636 to Section 36-3-4 .
3737 (b) After serving a first full four-year term in
3838 office, if the sheriff is re-elected to a second successive
3939 term, the sheriff shall receive a 7.5 percent salary increase,

6969 term, the sheriff shall receive a 7.5 percent salary increase,
7070 effective as of the first full pay period after the start of
7171 the sheriff's second successive term, which begins on the
7272 first Monday after the second Tuesday of January next after
7373 the sheriff's selection pursuant to Section 36-3-4.
7474 (c) After serving a second full four-year term in
7575 office, if the sheriff is re-elected to any successive term,
7676 then the sheriff shall receive an increase in the sheriff's
7777 then-existing salary in the amount of 7.5 percent, effective
7878 as of the first full pay period after the start of each
7979 successive term, which begins on the first Monday after the
8080 second Tuesday of January next after the sheriff's election
8181 pursuant to Section 36-3-4.
8282 (d) If the sheriff is elected to a non-successive term,
8383 the sheriff shall receive a salary of one hundred seventy
8484 thousand dollars ($170,00) per year, effective as of the first
8585 full pay period after the start of the sheriff's
8686 non-successive term which begins on the first Monday after the
8787 second Tuesday of January next after the sheriff's election
8888 pursuant to Section 36-3-4. Thereafter, if the sheriff serves
8989 a full non-successive four-year term and is re-elected to a
9090 successive term, the sheriff shall receive a 7.5 percent
9191 salary increase. Subsequently, the sheriff shall receive an
9292 increase in the sheriff's then-existing salary in the amount
9393 of 7.5 percent for any successive term to which the sheriff is
9494 re-elected, effective as of the first full pay period after
9595 the start of the sheriff's successive term.
9696 (e) During each term in office, the sheriff shall
9797 receive benefits regularly provided to employees of the

127127 receive benefits regularly provided to employees of the
128128 Madison County Commission, but shall not receive any
129129 cost-of-living compensation increases.
130130 (f) Other than as specified in this section, the
131131 sheriff shall receive no other increases in compensation.
132132 (g) The following shall apply to the individual serving
133133 as sheriff on June 1, 2025:
134134 (1) Beginning June 1, 2025, he or she shall receive an
135135 increase in salary from his or her current compensation of one
136136 hundred fifty-four thousand eighty-six dollars and forty cents
137137 ($154,086.40) per year to one hundred seventy thousand dollars
138138 ($170,000) per year.
139139 (2) He or she shall also receive a 7.5 percent salary
140140 increase for serving a second successive term in office,
141141 resulting in a salary of one hundred eighty-two thousand seven
142142 hundred fifty dollars ($182,750) per year.
143143 (3) Thereafter, if re-elected to a successive term, he
144144 or she shall receive an increase in his or her then-existing
145145 salary in the amount of 7.5 percent effective as of the first
146146 full pay period after the start of his or her successive term.
147147 (4) The provisions of this subsection shall be void
148148 when the individual serving as sheriff on June 1, 2025, ceases
149149 to serve as sheriff.
150150 (b) The Sheriff of Madison County shall not receive any
151151 monetary compensation of any kind other than reimbursements
152152 for itemized expenses and other than the annual salary set
153153 forth herein. "
154154 Section 2. This act shall become effective on June 1,
155155 2025.
