20	20	Relating to Marengo County; to amend Section 45-46-60
21	21	of the Code of Alabama 1975, to increase the expense allowance
22	22	and to further provide for the mileage allowance of the
23	23	coroner; to authorize the county commission to provide for the
24	24	coroner to appoint a deputy coroner and to provide an expense
25	25	allowance and mileage allowance for the deputy coroner; and to
26	26	authorize the county commission to increase the expense
27	27	allowance and mileage allowance of the coroner and the deputy
28	28	coroner.
29	29	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
30	30	Section 1. Section 45-46-60, Code of Alabama 1975, is
31	31	amended to read as follows:
32	32	"§45-46-60
33	33	(a)(1)Retroactive to January 1, 1992 Effective June 1,
34	34	2025, the Coroner of Marengo County , Alabama, shall be
35	35	entitled to receive an expense allowance in the amount of four
36	36	hundred dollars ($400) one thousand dollars ($1,000) per
37	37	month, to be paid in equal monthly installments from the
38	38	county general fund. The expense allowance shall be in
39	39	addition to the mileage allowance of twenty-two cents ($.22)

69	69	addition to the mileage allowance of twenty-two cents ($.22)
70	70	per mile, and in lieu of any expense allowances heretofore
71	71	provided by law for the coroner.
72	72	(2) The Marengo County Commission, by resolution of the
73	73	commission, may authorize the coroner to employ a deputy
74	74	coroner to serve at the pleasure of the coroner. The deputy
75	75	coroner shall receive an expense allowance to be set by the
76	76	county commission, payable monthly from the county general
77	77	fund.
78	78	(b) The Effective June 1, 2025, the Marengo County
79	79	Commission is hereby authorized and empowered to may set the
80	80	mileage allowance for the county coroner at twenty-two cents
81	81	($.22) per mile and the deputy corner . Such The mileage
82	82	allowance shall be paid from the county general fund and shall
83	83	be in lieu of any mileage allowances heretofore provided by
84	84	law for such coroner.
85	85	(c) Effective October 1, 2026, and at the beginning of
86	86	each fiscal year thereafter, the county commission may
87	87	increase the expense allowance and mileage allowance paid to
88	88	the coroner and the deputy coroner.
89	89	(d) The expense allowances and mileage allowances
90	90	provided by this section shall be in lieu of any expense
91	91	allowances or mileage allowances provided by general law. The
92	92	coroner and the deputy coroner by accepting the expense
93	93	allowances and mileage allowances shall waive any expense
94	94	allowances and mileage allowances provided by general law. "
95	95	Section 2. This act shall become effective on June 1,
96	96	2025.
