1515 HJR___ RECOGNIZING RHEEM MANUFACTURING COMPANY ON ITS 100TH
1616 ANNIVERSARY.
1717 WHEREAS, this Legislature takes great pride in
1818 recognizing businesses that have contributed to the growth
1919 of the this great state; Rheem Manufacturing Company has
2020 dedicated 100 years in providing jobs and serving the people
2121 of Alabama; and
2222 WHEREAS, in 1925, Rheem Manufacturing Company was
2323 founded in Emeryville, California, by brothers William,
2424 Richard, and Donald Rheem; Rheem's original focus was
2525 galvanizing steel drums and other metal products; in the
2626 following years, Rheem grew by adding several new business
2727 lines, including shipping containers, bathroom fixtures,
2828 defense equipment, and musical instruments; and
2929 WHEREAS, in 1930, Rheem began full-scale
3030 manufacturing of water heaters, boilers, and tanks; in 1937,
3131 Rheem expanded internationally, opening a manufacturing
3232 facility in Australia to produce shipping containers and
3333 household appliances; and
3434 WHEREAS, sensing a growing demand for central heating
3535 and cooling systems, the company began developing its first
3636 heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems in the
3737 1950s; and
3838 WHEREAS, in October 1971, Rheem broke ground on a

6868 WHEREAS, in October 1971, Rheem broke ground on a
6969 200,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Montgomery,
7070 Alabama, to produce water heaters; since its opening in
7171 April 1972, the plant has completed two major expansions,
7272 manufacturing both residential and commercial water heating
7373 systems; and
7474 WHEREAS, the Rheem Montgomery Plant has proudly
7575 provided continuous, uninterrupted business and job growth
7676 in Montgomery for the last 54 years; when the plant opened,
7777 Rheem employed 200 people; today, the Rheem family has grown
7878 to more than quadruple that number with over 900 team
7979 members; and
8080 WHEREAS, over the years, Rheem and its employees have
8181 proudly supported many nonprofit organizations that serve
8282 the greater Montgomery Community, including Habitat for
8383 Humanity, Toys for Tots, The United Way, Prattville YMCA,
8484 and the Joy to Life Foundation's Walk of Life; and
8585 WHEREAS, in 2013, Rheem acquired Heat Transfer
8686 Products Group (HTPG), located in Scottsboro, Alabama; HTPG
8787 is a leading manufacturer of energy efficient commercial and
8888 industrial refrigeration equipment; and
8989 WHEREAS, HTPG employees give back to the Scottsboro
9090 Community through an annual 5k "Superhero" road race,
9191 supporting the Jackson County Children's Advocacy Center and
9292 Earth Day events to improve the Scottsboro Industrial Park;
9393 and
9494 WHEREAS, today, Rheem has over 14,000 employees, 50
9595 global brands, and manufacturing and distribution of its
9696 products in more than 88 countries; now therefore,

131131 opportunities to workers and sustaining a mission of
132132 supporting the community and people who make it all
