15	15	HJR___ RECOGNIZING RHEEM MANUFACTURING COMPANY ON ITS 100TH
16	16	ANNIVERSARY.
17	17	WHEREAS, this Legislature takes great pride in
18	18	recognizing businesses that have contributed to the growth
19	19	of the this great state; Rheem Manufacturing Company has
20	20	dedicated 100 years in providing jobs and serving the people
21	21	of Alabama; and
22	22	WHEREAS, in 1925, Rheem Manufacturing Company was
23	23	founded in Emeryville, California, by brothers William,
24	24	Richard, and Donald Rheem; Rheem's original focus was
25	25	galvanizing steel drums and other metal products; in the
26	26	following years, Rheem grew by adding several new business
27	27	lines, including shipping containers, bathroom fixtures,
28	28	defense equipment, and musical instruments; and
29	29	WHEREAS, in 1930, Rheem began full-scale
30	30	manufacturing of water heaters, boilers, and tanks; in 1937,
31	31	Rheem expanded internationally, opening a manufacturing
32	32	facility in Australia to produce shipping containers and
33	33	household appliances; and
34	34	WHEREAS, sensing a growing demand for central heating
35	35	and cooling systems, the company began developing its first
36	36	heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems in the
37	37	1950s; and
38	38	WHEREAS, in October 1971, Rheem broke ground on a

68	68	WHEREAS, in October 1971, Rheem broke ground on a
69	69	200,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Montgomery,
70	70	Alabama, to produce water heaters; since its opening in
71	71	April 1972, the plant has completed two major expansions,
72	72	manufacturing both residential and commercial water heating
73	73	systems; and
74	74	WHEREAS, the Rheem Montgomery Plant has proudly
75	75	provided continuous, uninterrupted business and job growth
76	76	in Montgomery for the last 54 years; when the plant opened,
77	77	Rheem employed 200 people; today, the Rheem family has grown
78	78	to more than quadruple that number with over 900 team
79	79	members; and
80	80	WHEREAS, over the years, Rheem and its employees have
81	81	proudly supported many nonprofit organizations that serve
82	82	the greater Montgomery Community, including Habitat for
83	83	Humanity, Toys for Tots, The United Way, Prattville YMCA,
84	84	and the Joy to Life Foundation's Walk of Life; and
85	85	WHEREAS, in 2013, Rheem acquired Heat Transfer
86	86	Products Group (HTPG), located in Scottsboro, Alabama; HTPG
87	87	is a leading manufacturer of energy efficient commercial and
88	88	industrial refrigeration equipment; and
89	89	WHEREAS, HTPG employees give back to the Scottsboro
90	90	Community through an annual 5k "Superhero" road race,
91	91	supporting the Jackson County Children's Advocacy Center and
92	92	Earth Day events to improve the Scottsboro Industrial Park;
93	93	and
94	94	WHEREAS, today, Rheem has over 14,000 employees, 50
95	95	global brands, and manufacturing and distribution of its
96	96	products in more than 88 countries; now therefore,

127	127	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
128	128	HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we highly commend and
129	129	congratulate Rheem Manufacturing Company after a century of
130	130	highly-skilled work, while providing countless jobs and
131	131	opportunities to workers and sustaining a mission of
132	132	supporting the community and people who make it all
