HJR___ RECOGNIZING RHEEM MANUFACTURING COMPANY ON ITS 100TH
ANNIVERSARY.
WHEREAS, this Legislature takes great pride in
recognizing businesses that have contributed to the growth
of the this great state; Rheem Manufacturing Company has
dedicated 100 years in providing jobs and serving the people
of Alabama; and 
WHEREAS, in 1925, Rheem Manufacturing Company was
founded in Emeryville, California, by brothers William,
Richard, and Donald Rheem; Rheem's original focus was
galvanizing steel drums and other metal products; in the
following years, Rheem grew by adding several new business
lines, including shipping containers, bathroom fixtures,
defense equipment, and musical instruments; and 
WHEREAS, in 1930, Rheem began full-scale
manufacturing of water heaters, boilers, and tanks; in 1937,
Rheem expanded internationally, opening a manufacturing
facility in Australia to produce shipping containers and
household appliances; and
WHEREAS, sensing a growing demand for central heating
and cooling systems, the company began developing its first
heating, ventilation, and air-conditioning systems in the
1950s; and
WHEREAS, in October 1971, Rheem broke ground on a

WHEREAS, in October 1971, Rheem broke ground on a
200,000 square foot manufacturing plant in Montgomery,
Alabama, to produce water heaters; since its opening in
April 1972, the plant has completed two major expansions,
manufacturing both residential and commercial water heating
systems; and 
WHEREAS, the Rheem Montgomery Plant has proudly
provided continuous, uninterrupted business and job growth
in Montgomery for the last 54 years; when the plant opened,
Rheem employed 200 people; today, the Rheem family has grown
to more than quadruple that number with over 900 team
members; and
WHEREAS, over the years, Rheem and its employees have
proudly supported many nonprofit organizations that serve
the greater Montgomery Community, including Habitat for
Humanity, Toys for Tots, The United Way, Prattville YMCA,
and the Joy to Life Foundation's Walk of Life; and
WHEREAS, in 2013, Rheem acquired Heat Transfer
Products Group (HTPG), located in Scottsboro, Alabama; HTPG
is a leading manufacturer of energy efficient commercial and
industrial refrigeration equipment; and
WHEREAS, HTPG employees give back to the Scottsboro
Community through an annual 5k "Superhero" road race,
supporting the Jackson County Children's Advocacy Center and
Earth Day events to improve the Scottsboro Industrial Park;
and
WHEREAS, today, Rheem has over 14,000 employees, 50
global brands, and manufacturing and distribution of its
products in more than 88 countries; now therefore,

products in more than 88 countries; now therefore, 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That we highly commend and
congratulate Rheem Manufacturing Company after a century of
highly-skilled work, while providing countless jobs and
opportunities to workers and sustaining a mission of
supporting the community and people who make it all
possible.
