4545 HJR____ CONGRATULATING REPRESENTATIVE RANDALL SHEDD ON HIS
4646 YEARS OF SERVICE TO THE STATE OF ALABAMA.
4747 WHEREAS, with great pride and special pleasure,
4848 highest commendations are conveyed to Representative Randall
4949 Shedd for his constant and unwavering service to the State
5050 of Alabama; and
5151 WHEREAS, Randall Shedd started his journey at Wallace
5252 State Community College; following his graduation, he served
5353 as the Director of the Cullman County Commission on Aging;
5454 from 1977 to 1985, he diligently led the Cullman County
5555 Commission as its Chair; after his terms as chair and as a
5656 testament to his leadership abilities, he was elected Mayor
5757 of his hometown of Fairview in 1996 and served four terms
5858 until 2012; and
5959 WHEREAS, in late 2012, the District 11 seat,
6060 representing Blount and Cullman Counties, in the Alabama
6161 House of Representatives was vacated; having already proven
6262 his ability to serve his local community, Randall Shedd was
6363 elected to fill the position in a special election;
6464 Representative Shedd was sworn in as a member of the Alabama
6565 House of Representatives on April 11, 2013, and has
6666 dutifully served since; and
6767 WHEREAS, Representative Shedd has held many positions
6868 while serving in the Legislature; he is a member of the

9898 while serving in the Legislature; he is a member of the
9999 Legislative Council, the Joint Transportation Committee, the
100100 Permanent Joint Legislative Committee on Energy Policy, the
101101 Children and Senior Advocacy Committee, and the Sunset
102102 Committee; and
103103 WHEREAS, Representative Shedd quickly earned the
104104 respect and trust of his peers, evidenced by his many
105105 leadership positions in the Legislature; he is the Majority
106106 Whip in the Alabama House of Representatives and serves as
107107 Chair of the House Republican Steering Committee and the
108108 House Transportation, Utilities and Infrastructure
109109 Committee; and Cochair of the Alabama Digital Expansion
110110 Authority and the Alabama Rural Broadband Oversight
111111 Committee; and
112112 WHEREAS, never one to be idle, Representative Shedd
113113 serves as an officer in the House Rural Caucus and a member
114114 of the Sportsmen Caucus and TVA Caucus; in recognition of
115115 his character and strong work ethic, his fellow Republican
116116 Caucus members found it proper to bestow upon him the 2024
117117 Iron Award, an award given to a GOP representative whose
118118 words, deeds, and actions build teamwork and help colleagues
119119 reach their full potential; and
120120 WHEREAS, Randall Shedd will freely admit that his
121121 greatest accomplishment in life is his family; he and his
122122 wife, Debbie, have two sons and two grandchildren; Randall
123123 and Debbie are members of Welcome Baptist Church; and
124124 WHEREAS, known for his tireless and unwavering
125125 service to the residents of Alabama, Representative Shedd is
126126 the epitome of fairness, honesty, and professionalism; this

157157 body knows that his dedication to the people of Alabama will
158158 not end when he crosses the threshold of the State House;
159159 rather, the commendations within this resolution are given
160160 with the knowledge that he will continue serving his fellow
161161 Alabamians for many days; now therefore,
162162 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
163163 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That Representative Randall Shedd
164164 is hereby commended and recognized for his outstanding
165165 service to the people of House District 11 and the State of
166166 Alabama, and with sincere gratitude for his valuable
167167 contributions to this body, this resolution is offered with
168168 utmost respect to him, along with best wishes for all future
169169 endeavors.
