WHEREAS, with great pride and special pleasure, highest commendations are conveyed to Representative Randall Shedd for his constant and unwavering service to the State of Alabama; and WHEREAS, Randall Shedd started his journey at Wallace State Community College; following his graduation, he served as the Director of the Cullman County Commission on Aging; from 1977 to 1985, he diligently led the Cullman County Commission as its Chair; after his terms as chair and as a testament to his leadership abilities, he was elected Mayor of his hometown of Fairview in 1996 and served four terms until 2012; and WHEREAS, in late 2012, the District 11 seat, representing Blount and Cullman Counties, in the Alabama House of Representatives was vacated; having already proven his ability to serve his local community, Randall Shedd was elected to fill the position in a special election; Representative Shedd was sworn in as a member of the Alabama House of Representatives on April 11, 2013, and has dutifully served since; and WHEREAS, Representative Shedd has held many positions while serving in the Legislature; he is a member of the 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 HJR59 INTRODUCED Page 2 while serving in the Legislature; he is a member of the Legislative Council, the Joint Transportation Committee, the Permanent Joint Legislative Committee on Energy Policy, the Children and Senior Advocacy Committee, and the Sunset Committee; and WHEREAS, Representative Shedd quickly earned the respect and trust of his peers, evidenced by his many leadership positions in the Legislature; he is the Majority Whip in the Alabama House of Representatives and serves as Chair of the House Republican Steering Committee and the House Transportation, Utilities and Infrastructure Committee; and Cochair of the Alabama Digital Expansion Authority and the Alabama Rural Broadband Oversight Committee; and WHEREAS, never one to be idle, Representative Shedd serves as an officer in the House Rural Caucus and a member of the Sportsmen Caucus and TVA Caucus; in recognition of his character and strong work ethic, his fellow Republican Caucus members found it proper to bestow upon him the 2024 Iron Award, an award given to a GOP representative whose words, deeds, and actions build teamwork and help colleagues reach their full potential; and WHEREAS, Randall Shedd will freely admit that his greatest accomplishment in life is his family; he and his wife, Debbie, have two sons and two grandchildren; Randall and Debbie are members of Welcome Baptist Church; and WHEREAS, known for his tireless and unwavering service to the residents of Alabama, Representative Shedd is the epitome of fairness, honesty, and professionalism; this 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 48 49 50 51 52 53 54 55 56 HJR59 INTRODUCED Page 3 the epitome of fairness, honesty, and professionalism; this body knows that his dedication to the people of Alabama will not end when he crosses the threshold of the State House; rather, the commendations within this resolution are given with the knowledge that he will continue serving his fellow Alabamians for many days; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That Representative Randall Shedd is hereby commended and recognized for his outstanding service to the people of House District 11 and the State of Alabama, and with sincere gratitude for his valuable contributions to this body, this resolution is offered with utmost respect to him, along with best wishes for all future endeavors. 57 58 59 60 61 62 63 64 65 66 67 68 69
