WHEREAS, the State of Alabama has contributed numerous advancements to the world in science, technology, and rocket propulsion over the past six decades, including taking Americans to the Moon; and WHEREAS, NASA's Marshall Space Flight Center has private suppliers in all seven congressional districts, reaffirming the space industry serves as a major economic development asset and technology magnet for Alabama and the southeast; and WHEREAS, the partnerships between Marshall Space Flight Center, U.S. Space and Rocket Center, Beyond Gravity, Blue Origin, KBR, Leidos Dynetics, Lockheed Martin, Northrop Grumman, Teledyne Brown Engineering, The Boeing Company, Raytheon RTX, Special Aerospace Services, United Launch Alliance, and many others across the state bring critical innovation through continued advanced discoveries, STEM outreach, strengthening national security, deepening partnerships across the country and around the world, and inspiring a new generation of scientists, engineers, and explorers; and WHEREAS, Alabama is resolute in continuing to shape the workforce of the future through robust partnerships with academia, industry, government, and nonprofits and 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 HJR63 INTRODUCED Page 2 academia, industry, government, and nonprofits and acknowledges the establishment and success of the Alabama Aerospace Student Internship Program in its fifth year designed to provide students across Alabama a pathway into the aerospace industry; and WHEREAS, Alabama continues to secure the nation's role as frontrunner in advancing industry, technology, and education, to support global space innovations and exploration; and WHEREAS, NASA Astronauts Clifton Williams, Henry Hartsfield, Kathy Thornton, James Voss, Mae Jemison, Jan Davis, and Kathryn Hire, all from Alabama, have spent over 320 days in space across 18 flights of the Marshall-managed Space Shuttle Program; and WHEREAS, Alabamians are exceedingly proud of the distinguished achievements the advances in space exploration, technology, and science it has produced to the benefit of all humanity ; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, Tha t we hereby proclaim February 25, 2025, as Space Day in the State of Alabama. 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 48
