1515 HJR___ MOURNING THE DEATH AND CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF HARRY
1616 JOSEPH LITTLETON.
1717 WHEREAS, with an overwhelming sense of loss, we mourn
1818 the death, yet celebrate the life, of Dr. Harry Joseph
1919 Littleton of Mountain Brook, Alabama, whose passing on
2020 January 8, 2025, at the age of 84, has left a void in the
2121 lives of his loving family, friends, and the entire
2222 community, where he was highly regarded; and
2323 WHEREAS, born on June 30, 1940, in Gadsden, Alabama,
2424 to Jessie and Curtis Littleton, Harry Joseph Littleton
2525 graduated from Gadsden High School in 1958; a standout
2626 All-State halfback, he earned a place in the Gadsden High
2727 School Hall of Fame; and
2828 WHEREAS,Dr. Littleton attended the Georgia Institute
2929 of Technology on a football scholarship, where he played
3030 under the legendary coach Bobby Dodd and became a
3131 distinguished member of the Georgia Tech Letterman's
3232 Society; he went on to further his education at The
3333 University of Alabama School of Medicine before serving as a
3434 physician in the United States Navy for two years, stationed
3535 aboard a destroyer in the Mediterranean Sea ; and
3636 WHEREAS,following his military service, Dr.
3737 Littleton completed his training in Obstetrics and
3838 Gynecology; he became one of the first OBGYNs at Baptist

6868 Gynecology; he became one of the first OBGYNs at Baptist
6969 Health Brookwood when the hospital opened in 1973,
7070 dedicating 34 years to his practice; a respected member of
7171 the Birmingham OBGYN Society, he contributed significantly
7272 to the field throughout his career ; and
7373 WHEREAS, Dr. Littleton was a devoted member of
7474 Canterbury United Methodist Church for over 50 years,
7575 actively participating in the Crawford Owen Bible Class; a
7676 passionate Alabama football fan, he was also a proud member
7777 of the Red Elephant Club, the President's Cabinet, and the
7878 Monday Morning Quarterback Club ; and
7979 WHEREAS, a lifelong golfer, Dr. Littleton was a
8080 member of Shoal Creek and the Country Club of Birmingham,
8181 where he enjoyed playing with the Rollers; an avid reader
8282 and eternal learner, he had a deep love for history and
8383 travel; he and his friends formed the Spartan Senior Travel
8484 Squad, attending many Mountain Brook sporting events
8585 together; above all, Dr. Littleton's greatest joy was his
8686 family; he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
8787 affectionately known as "Da"; and
8888 WHEREAS, left to cherish his memory are his high
8989 school sweetheart and wife of 64 years, Kay Robinett
9090 Littleton; children, Julie Smith, Michael Littleton (Amy),
9191 and Kate Gillespie (Hunt); 10 grandchildren; two
9292 great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Charles Robinett
9393 (Donna); he was preceded in death by his parents; and his
9494 sister, Sharon Carter; and
9595 WHEREAS, a valued member of the community and loved
9696 by many, his service to others and his passion for life will

127127 be remembered fondly; although his presence will be greatly
128128 missed, the memory of Dr. Littleton will be cherished in the
129129 hearts of all who knew and loved him ; now therefore,
130130 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
131131 HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the death of Dr. Harry
132132 Joseph Littleton is recorded with deep sadness, and even as
133133 we mourn his death, we also celebrate his life; this
134134 resolution is offered in highest tribute, along with
135135 heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends, whose grief is
136136 shared by many.
