HJR___ MOURNING THE DEATH AND CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF HARRY
JOSEPH LITTLETON.
WHEREAS, with an overwhelming sense of loss, we mourn
the death, yet celebrate the life, of Dr. Harry Joseph
Littleton of Mountain Brook, Alabama, whose passing on
January 8, 2025, at the age of 84, has left a void in the
lives of his loving family, friends, and the entire
community, where he was highly regarded; and 
WHEREAS, born on June 30, 1940, in Gadsden, Alabama,
to Jessie and Curtis Littleton, Harry Joseph Littleton
graduated from Gadsden High School in 1958; a standout
All-State halfback, he earned a place in the Gadsden High
School Hall of Fame; and 
WHEREAS,Dr. Littleton attended the Georgia Institute
of Technology on a football scholarship, where he played
under the legendary coach Bobby Dodd and became a
distinguished member of the Georgia Tech Letterman's
Society; he went on to further his education at The
University of Alabama School of Medicine before serving as a
physician in the United States Navy for two years, stationed
aboard a destroyer in the Mediterranean Sea ; and 
WHEREAS,following his military service, Dr.
Littleton completed his training in Obstetrics and
Gynecology; he became one of the first OBGYNs at Baptist

Gynecology; he became one of the first OBGYNs at Baptist
Health Brookwood when the hospital opened in 1973,
dedicating 34 years to his practice; a respected member of
the Birmingham OBGYN Society, he contributed significantly
to the field throughout his career ; and
WHEREAS, Dr. Littleton was a devoted member of
Canterbury United Methodist Church for over 50 years,
actively participating in the Crawford Owen Bible Class; a
passionate Alabama football fan, he was also a proud member
of the Red Elephant Club, the President's Cabinet, and the
Monday Morning Quarterback Club ; and
WHEREAS, a lifelong golfer, Dr. Littleton was a
member of Shoal Creek and the Country Club of Birmingham,
where he enjoyed playing with the Rollers; an avid reader
and eternal learner, he had a deep love for history and
travel; he and his friends formed the Spartan Senior Travel
Squad, attending many Mountain Brook sporting events
together; above all, Dr. Littleton's greatest joy was his
family; he was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather,
affectionately known as "Da"; and
WHEREAS, left to cherish his memory are his high
school sweetheart and wife of 64 years, Kay Robinett
Littleton; children, Julie Smith, Michael Littleton (Amy),
and Kate Gillespie (Hunt); 10 grandchildren; two
great-grandchildren; and brother-in-law, Charles Robinett
(Donna); he was preceded in death by his parents; and his
sister, Sharon Carter; and
WHEREAS, a valued member of the community and loved
by many, his service to others and his passion for life will

by many, his service to others and his passion for life will
be remembered fondly; although his presence will be greatly
missed, the memory of Dr. Littleton will be cherished in the
hearts of all who knew and loved him ; now therefore, 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, BOTH
HOUSES THEREOF CONCURRING, That the death of Dr. Harry
Joseph Littleton is recorded with deep sadness, and even as
we mourn his death, we also celebrate his life; this
resolution is offered in highest tribute, along with
heartfelt sympathy to his family and friends, whose grief is
shared by many.
