1515 HR____ MOURNING THE DEATH AND CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF
1616 GWENDOLYN WENDELL WILLIAMS PETERSON.
1717 WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
1818 death of Gwendolyn Wendell Williams Peterson of Union
1919 Springs, Alabama, at the age of 76; her departure leaves a
2020 void in the lives of her loving family, many friends, and
2121 the community where she was highly regarded; and
2222 WHEREAS, born on October 23, 1948, Gwendolyn was
2323 blessed with a loving family; she was a high spirited,
2424 determined, intelligent, and nurturing child; growing up as
2525 the youngest of four children, life was never dull; she
2626 would go on to have three children of her own, Mildretta,
2727 Shenita, and Brandon, along with six grandchildren, 11
2828 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews; and
2929 WHEREAS, Ms. Peterson earned her Bachelor of Science
3030 and Master of Education degrees from Alabama State
3131 University; using the skills given to her and ones she
3232 learned, she became a devoted educator for 43 years; and
3333 WHEREAS, while serving as an educator, Ms. Peterson
3434 also vastly contributed to her community, including being a
3535 member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; First
3636 Baptist Church of Greater Washington Park; AERA District 7
3737 Director; Alabama State University Foundation Board; Alabama
3838 Silver-Haired Legislature; AARP Legislative Representative;

6969 Mighty Marching Hornets Band Boosters; and was an active
7070 member of several local Retirees' Associations, including
7171 Montgomery, Lowndes, Macon, Butler, Russell, Bullock, and
7272 Elmore Counties; and
7373 WHEREAS, Ms. Peterson was preceded in death by her
7474 parents, Catha and Gladys Williams; and brother, Clifton
7575 Williams; she will be lovingly remembered by her children,
7676 Mildretta, Shenita, and Brandon (Sheikina); her children's
7777 father, Andrew Peterson; grandchildren, Kierra Peterson,
7878 Kenneth Dorsey (Martine), Kyvante (Hydreias), and Shenika
7979 Peterson; great-grandchildren, Tequan Hall, Arsenio Hall,
8080 Jr., Skyler Hall, Kennedy Dorsey, Amauri Rudolph, Meriah
8181 Peterson, Noarah Peterson, Neriah Peterson, Kendrick
8282 Peterson, Kendall Peterson, and Aiden Peterson; and
8383 WHEREAS, Gwendolyn Peterson's life was a testament to
8484 love, leadership, and service; she will be deeply missed,
8585 yet her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she
8686 touched; now therefore,
8787 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
8888 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Gwendolyn Wendell
8989 Williams Peterson is recorded with deep sadness, and this
9090 resolution is offered to her family in tribute to her life
9191 and with heartfelt sympathy to her loved ones whose grief is
9292 shared by many.
