HR____ MOURNING THE DEATH AND CELEBRATING THE LIFE OF
GWENDOLYN WENDELL WILLIAMS PETERSON.
WHEREAS, it is with profound sorrow that we note the
death of Gwendolyn Wendell Williams Peterson of Union
Springs, Alabama, at the age of 76; her departure leaves a
void in the lives of her loving family, many friends, and
the community where she was highly regarded; and
WHEREAS, born on October 23, 1948, Gwendolyn was
blessed with a loving family; she was a high spirited,
determined, intelligent, and nurturing child; growing up as
the youngest of four children, life was never dull; she
would go on to have three children of her own, Mildretta,
Shenita, and Brandon, along with six grandchildren, 11
great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Peterson earned her Bachelor of Science
and Master of Education degrees from Alabama State
University; using the skills given to her and ones she
learned, she became a devoted educator for 43 years; and
WHEREAS, while serving as an educator, Ms. Peterson
also vastly contributed to her community, including being a
member of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated; First
Baptist Church of Greater Washington Park; AERA District 7
Director; Alabama State University Foundation Board; Alabama
Silver-Haired Legislature; AARP Legislative Representative;

Silver-Haired Legislature; AARP Legislative Representative;
Mighty Marching Hornets Band Boosters; and was an active
member of several local Retirees' Associations, including
Montgomery, Lowndes, Macon, Butler, Russell, Bullock, and
Elmore Counties; and
WHEREAS, Ms. Peterson was preceded in death by her
parents, Catha and Gladys Williams; and brother, Clifton
Williams; she will be lovingly remembered by her children,
Mildretta, Shenita, and Brandon (Sheikina); her children's
father, Andrew Peterson; grandchildren, Kierra Peterson,
Kenneth Dorsey (Martine), Kyvante (Hydreias), and Shenika
Peterson; great-grandchildren, Tequan Hall, Arsenio Hall,
Jr., Skyler Hall, Kennedy Dorsey, Amauri Rudolph, Meriah
Peterson, Noarah Peterson, Neriah Peterson, Kendrick
Peterson, Kendall Peterson, and Aiden Peterson; and
WHEREAS, Gwendolyn Peterson's life was a testament to
love, leadership, and service; she will be deeply missed,
yet her spirit will live on in the hearts of those she
touched; now therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the death of Gwendolyn Wendell
Williams Peterson is recorded with deep sadness, and this
resolution is offered to her family in tribute to her life
and with heartfelt sympathy to her loved ones whose grief is
shared by many.
