16	16	OUTSTANDING CONTRIBUTIONS TO OAKWOOD UNIVERSITY.
17	17	WHEREAS, Dr. Prudence LaBeach Pollard has served over
18	18	14 years as First Lady for Oakwood University and is married
19	19	to Dr. Leslie Nelson Pollard, Ph.D., D. Min., President of
20	20	Oakwood University in Huntsville, Alabama; she has dedicated
21	21	her time and efforts to help Oakwood University and the
22	22	Huntsville Community succeed in every way possible; and
23	23	WHEREAS, Dr. Pollard served Oakwood University from
24	24	2011 to 2024 as Vice President for Quality Assurance,
25	25	Research and Faculty Development and is the Founding Dean
26	26	for the School of Graduate Studies; she is tenured as a
27	27	Professor of Management in the Oakwood University School of
28	28	Business and is the author of "Raise a Leader, God's Way"
29	29	and has edited multitudinous books, published a plethora of
30	30	articles, and delivered approximately over 100 scholarly
31	31	presentations; and
32	32	WHEREAS, Dr. Pollard holds a Bachelor of Science in
33	33	Nutrition and Dietetics, Oakwood University; a Master in
34	34	Public Health, University of Michigan; a Ph.D. in
35	35	Evaluation, Measurement, and Research Design, Western
36	36	Michigan University; and is also a Registered Dietitian,
37	37	American Dietetic Association; and specializing in
38	38	leadership and community health and wellness, is a senior

69	69	professional in human resources, Human Resources
70	70	Certification Institute; and
71	71	WHEREAS, Dr. Pollard's academic and professional
72	72	positions at Oakwood University have included, but were not
73	73	limited to, Academic Planner, Human Resource Administrator,
74	74	Technology Administrator, Strategic Planner, Leadership
75	75	Development Consultant/Researcher, and Founder and
76	76	Administrator for an internally funded Faculty Development
77	77	Grant Program to support development of faculty research
78	78	capabilities; and
79	79	WHEREAS, Dr. Prudence LaBeach Pollard designed and
80	80	launched both the Oakwood University Leadership Academy
81	81	(iLEAD) for executives and the innovative Frontline Academy
82	82	for staff; and
83	83	WHEREAS, Dr. Pollard began her health care career in
84	84	the Blue Zone at Loma Linda University as a professor in the
85	85	School of Public Health; she has worked as a university
86	86	educator since 1986, and a university administrator since
87	87	1994; she brings to her achievements a wealth of experience
88	88	across four universities; and
89	89	WHEREAS, Dr. Pollard worked with a team of 35 to
90	90	envision what a healthy HBCU should look like; her research
91	91	uncovered the comorbidities of diabetes, obesity,
92	92	hypertension, and cardiovascular diseases that affect not
93	93	only African American adults, but also African American
94	94	adolescents; and
95	95	WHEREAS, Dr. Pollard launched HealthyCampus2020 to
96	96	assess the health of the university and develop a healthier

127	127	campus, currently known as Healthy Campus, Healthy
128	128	Community; Oakwood University was awarded the Crystal Apple
129	129	Award by Mrs. Michelle Obama's Partnership for a Healthier
130	130	America in 2018; and
131	131	WHEREAS, with honor, appreciation, and prestige Dr.
132	132	Pollard was presented the President's Lifetime Achievement
133	133	Award in recognition of her volunteer leadership and service
134	134	to our great nation from former President Joseph R. Biden,
135	135	Jr. on March 20, 2022; and
136	136	WHEREAS, she has made an extraordinary impact through
137	137	heartfelt and diligent contributions; her efforts have
138	138	greatly benefited Oakwood University and the neighboring
139	139	communities; now therefore,
140	140	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
141	141	LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the State Legislative Office of
142	142	Alabama Representative Laura Hall formally honors Dr.
143	143	Prudence LaBeach Pollard for more than a decade of exemplary
144	144	achievements and service.
