WHEREAS, highest commendations and congratulations are herein proudly presented to Kimberly Christian Johnson, Wellborn High School graduate and Auburn Junior High School teacher, on being named the recipient of the National Education Association's (NEA) 2024 Member Benefits Award for Teaching Excellence; and WHEREAS, Kimberly Johnson, an interventionist, resource educator, and teacher lead at Auburn Junior High School in Auburn, Alabama, received one of public education's top honors for her tireless dedication to empowering students and advocating for equity in education, which has made a transformational difference in the lives of her students, peers, and school community; her passion, leadership, and commitment to ensuring every student has access to quality education are truly inspiring; and WHEREAS, as an interventionist, Kimberly Johnson works with at-risk students, supporting them as they work to overcome various challenges and strive for academic success; she motivates and encourages students through student-centered teaching practices that focus on building trust and self-esteem; and 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 15 16 17 18 19 20 21 22 23 24 25 26 27 28 HR33 INTRODUCED Page 2 trust and self-esteem; and WHEREAS, beyond her work with students, she is an advocate for social-emotional learning, student advocacy, teacher support, school resources, and equity in the teaching profession; her dedication to fostering inclusive and supportive learning environments has had a profound impact on students, educators, and communities alike; and WHEREAS, Kimberly Johnson is currently pursuing a doctoral degree in education; she hopes to continue working in the profession and to advocate on a national level for students and teachers; the award will give her a platform to connect with superintendents, the members and sponsors of the NEA program, and other educational organizations; and WHEREAS, on May 4, 2024, she attended the NEA Salute to Excellence in Education Gala at the White House, which was also attended by President Joe Biden and his wife, Jill; she was one of five finalists, and she won the prestigious Horace Mann Award before the announcement was made that she was awarded the NEA 2024 Member Benefits Award for Teaching Excellence; and WHEREAS, with her commitment to excellence and tireless dedication, Kimberly Johnson personifies the finest qualities of those who enrich the lives of Alabama's young people through the noble vocation of education, and she is truly worthy of the significant honor bestowed upon her; now therefore, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That Kimberly Christian Johnson is hereby most highly honored and commended, and this 29 30 31 32 33 34 35 36 37 38 39 40 41 42 43 44 45 46 47 48 49 50 51 52 53 54 55 56 HR33 INTRODUCED Page 3 hereby most highly honored and commended, and this resolution is offered to her in deepest admiration and appreciation, along with sincere best wishes for continued success in all future endeavors. 57 58 59
