1919 HR____ HONORING CARRIE CLARA HUFFMAN ON THE OCCASION OF HER
2020 100TH BIRTHDAY.
2121 WHEREAS, it is with great admiration and joyful
2222 celebration that we honor the extraordinary life and legacy
2323 of Carrie Clara Huffman, a cherished resident of Fairhope,
2424 Alabama, on the rarefied occasion of her 100th birthday on
2525 April 4, 2025; and
2626 WHEREAS, she was born Carrie Clara Olmstead on April
2727 4, 1925, in Cattaraugus County, New York, to William Addison
2828 Olmstead and Nora Bell Foster, and her early life was marked
2929 by adversity, resilience, and grace, as she was placed into
3030 foster care at the age of five; she was lovingly cared for
3131 by her foster parents, William and Lucy Marsh, and remained
3232 close throughout her youth to her beloved sister, Alberta;
3333 and
3434 WHEREAS, Ms. Huffman left formal schooling in the
3535 eighth grade in order to care for her terminally ill mother,
3636 a decision that highlights the values of quiet sacrifice and
3737 deep familial devotion that she is known to embody by all
3838 who know her; and
3939 WHEREAS, in July 1941, at the age of 16, she would
4040 marry Clair Sherman Huffman, who would serve in World War II
4141 and later return home to be with his beloved wife and raise
4242 a large and loving family by her side; their union was

7272 a large and loving family by her side; their union was
7373 blessed with eight children: Virginia, Arlene, Barbara,
7474 Harold, Phillip, Terry, Larry, and Betty; and
7575 WHEREAS, in addition to raising her family and
7676 overseeing the family's dairy farm, Ms. Huffman worked for
7777 32 years as a press brake operator and tool and die
7878 machinist at Tonnard Manufacturing in Corry, Pennsylvania,
7979 doing work that required not only physical endurance but
8080 steady determination and skill as well; and
8181 WHEREAS, she moved to Fairhope in 1998, which she
8282 says she is thankful for because it is the greatest
8383 community she has had the pleasure to live in; she continues
8484 to live with joy tending to her garden, feeding the birds
8585 she loves, reading voraciously, and sharing stories and love
8686 with all who have the pleasure to know her, including her
8787 more than 100 grandchildren and descendants that stretch
8888 across six generations and counting; and
8989 WHEREAS, Ms. Huffman's life is a shining example of
9090 what it means to live not just a long life, but a meaningful
9191 one as she is dearly loved by her family, admired by her
9292 community, and is here now rightly celebrated by the State
9393 of Alabama on her centennial birthday; now therefore,
9494 BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
9595 LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That the Alabama House of
9696 Representatives hereby recognizes and honors Carrie Clara
9797 Huffman on the occasion of her 100th birthday and joins with
9898 her family and friends in extending our deepest appreciation
9999 and warmest congratulations on this remarkable milestone.
