15	15	HR____ COMMENDING COACH RICKY KNIGHT FOR PROFESSIONAL
16	16	ACHIEVEMENTS ON THE OCCASION OF HIS RETIREMENT.
17	17	WHEREAS, highest commendations are herein proudly
18	18	presented to Coach Ricky Knight on the joyous occasion of
19	19	his retirement from Lurleen B. Wallace Community College
20	20	(LBW); and
21	21	WHEREAS, Coach Ricky Knight has dedicated an
22	22	extraordinary 40 years to LBW as the head coach of the men's
23	23	and women's basketball teams, demonstrating a profound
24	24	commitment to excellence both on and off the court; and
25	25	WHEREAS, Coach Knight's professional basketball
26	26	career as a player took him overseas, where he competed
27	27	internationally in Spain, Brazil, Australia, and Argentina,
28	28	before transitioning to coaching as an assistant at The
29	29	University of Alabama in Huntsville and ultimately joining
30	30	LBW in 1985; and
31	31	WHEREAS, throughout his career at LBW, Coach Knight
32	32	has achieved remarkable success, including leading the
33	33	women's basketball team to two state championships and
34	34	multiple national tournament appearances; he guided both the
35	35	men's and women's teams to numerous conference championships
36	36	and earned a variety of coaching awards such as NJCAA Region
37	37	22 Coach of the Year and Birmingham Tip-Off Club Junior
38	38	College Coach of the Year; and

69	69	WHEREAS, Coach Knight's leadership extended beyond
70	70	athletic achievements, as he developed LBW's athletic
71	71	program into one of the most respected in the region and
72	72	mentored countless student-athletes who have gone on to
73	73	excel in basketball and in their personal and professional
74	74	lives; and
75	75	WHEREAS, Coach Knight's dedication, integrity, and
76	76	exemplary leadership have left an indelible mark on LBW and
77	77	the surrounding community, creating a lasting legacy of
78	78	excellence in athletics and academics; and
79	79	WHEREAS, LBW will honor Coach Knight for his
80	80	distinguished career and celebrate his retirement on
81	81	February 17, 2025, prior to the final home basketball game
82	82	of the season at Seth Hammett Gymnasium; and
83	83	WHEREAS, we wish Coach Knight a fulfilling and
84	84	well-deserved retirement as he embarks on this new chapter
85	85	of his life, confident that his legacy will continue to
86	86	inspire future generations of student-athletes and coaches;
87	87	now therefore,
88	88	BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
89	89	LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, Tha t Coach Ricky Knight is heartily
90	90	congratulated for his many wins, and this resolution is
91	91	offered to him with deep gratitude and highest regard along
92	92	with best wishes for health and happiness in his retirement.
