17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, with great pride and special pleasure, |

18 | 18 | | Carlos Sanders is highly commended for his many years of |
---|
19 | 19 | | selfless service to his community of Chelsea, Alabama, as a |
---|
20 | 20 | | volunteer with the Chelsea Citizen Observer Patrol (COP); |
---|
21 | 21 | | and |
---|
22 | 22 | | WHEREAS, the Chelsea COP is an all volunteer |
---|
23 | 23 | | organization composed of Chelsea residents and sponsored by |
---|
24 | 24 | | the City of Chelsea and the Shelby County Sheriff's Office; |
---|
25 | 25 | | the volunteers receive extensive training before receiving |
---|
26 | 26 | | certification to patrol neighborhoods and business areas, |
---|
27 | 27 | | helping to deter crime and assist in emergencies; their |
---|
28 | 28 | | efforts have made Chelsea one of the safest cities in |
---|
29 | 29 | | Alabama; and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, Carlos Sanders has a long history of service |
---|
31 | 31 | | to others; he served in the United States Army from 1988 to |
---|
32 | 32 | | 2012, retiring as a decorated Master Sergeant; he bravely |
---|
33 | 33 | | served overseas in Operation Just Cause and Operation Desert |
---|
34 | 34 | | Storm; and |
---|
35 | 35 | | WHEREAS, Carlos joined the Chelsea COP on August 5, |
---|
36 | 36 | | 2016, and since that date has donated more than 5,000 hours |
---|
37 | 37 | | of his time to the safety of the community; he was |
---|
38 | 38 | | recognized as Rookie of the Year in 2017, Volunteer of the |
