HR___ COMMENDING CARLOS SANDERS FOR HIS SELFLESS DEDICATION
TO THE SAFETY OF THE RESIDENTS OF CHELSEA, ALABAMA.
WHEREAS, with great pride and special pleasure,
Carlos Sanders is highly commended for his many years of
selfless service to his community of Chelsea, Alabama, as a
volunteer with the Chelsea Citizen Observer Patrol (COP);
and
WHEREAS, the Chelsea COP is an all volunteer
organization composed of Chelsea residents and sponsored by
the City of Chelsea and the Shelby County Sheriff's Office;
the volunteers receive extensive training before receiving
certification to patrol neighborhoods and business areas,
helping to deter crime and assist in emergencies; their
efforts have made Chelsea one of the safest cities in
Alabama; and
WHEREAS, Carlos Sanders has a long history of service
to others; he served in the United States Army from 1988 to
2012, retiring as a decorated Master Sergeant; he bravely
served overseas in Operation Just Cause and Operation Desert
Storm; and
WHEREAS, Carlos joined the Chelsea COP on August 5,
2016, and since that date has donated more than 5,000 hours
of his time to the safety of the community; he was
recognized as Rookie of the Year in 2017, Volunteer of the

recognized as Rookie of the Year in 2017, Volunteer of the
Year in 2019, and Co-volunteer of the Year in 2022; and
WHEREAS, Carlos became the organization's director in
2019, taking on more responsibility and giving more of his
time and talent; he has the unwavering support of his wife,
Marilyn, and their five children and one grandchild; now
therefore,
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That it is an honor to offer this
resolution to Carlos Sanders, and to the organization that
he leads, with our greatest respect for their mission to
provide a safe home to the Chelsea community and with best
wishes for continued success.
