17 | 17 | | WHEREAS, with great pride and special pleasure, |

18 | 18 | | joyful felicitations are conveyed to United States Army |
---|
19 | 19 | | Veteran James T. Cullins, on the occasion of his milestone |
---|
20 | 20 | | 95th Birthday; and |
---|
21 | 21 | | WHEREAS, Mr. Cullins was born on February 26, 1930, |
---|
22 | 22 | | in Sylacauga, Alabama; in 1948, he joined the United States |
---|
23 | 23 | | Army when he was 18 years old and was sent to Germany, where |
---|
24 | 24 | | he served as a machine gunner during the Berlin Airlift and |
---|
25 | 25 | | saw World War II come to an end; he also served in the |
---|
26 | 26 | | Korean War; he was stationed on the edge of Russia, |
---|
27 | 27 | | operating a tank and preparing to enter Russia if ordered; |
---|
28 | 28 | | in 1952, he was honorably discharged as a Staff Sergeant; |
---|
29 | 29 | | and |
---|
30 | 30 | | WHEREAS, in 1951, Mr. Cullins answered the call to |
---|
31 | 31 | | ministry and after his military career, he attended |
---|
32 | 32 | | Freed-Hardman University; after college, he was asked to |
---|
33 | 33 | | preach at the Alexander City Church of Christ; he also |
---|
34 | 34 | | enjoyed guest preaching at Bethany Baptist, Children's |
---|
35 | 35 | | Harbor, Church in the Pines on Lake Martin, Church of Christ |
---|
36 | 36 | | of the Highlands, and Chapman Healthcare and Assisted Living |
---|
37 | 37 | | Center; in a testament to his time in the military and the |
---|
38 | 38 | | importance of supporting Veterans, he found it truly |
---|

72 | 72 | | Alabama, acquire the senior living apartments Hillabee |

73 | 73 | | Towers, in 1983; in his honor, they named the apartments the |

74 | 74 | | James T. Cullins Hillabee Towers; as a part of a Veterans' |
---|
75 | 75 | | display at the Charles E. Bailey, Sr. Sportplex, he |
---|
76 | 76 | | orchestrated bringing in an airplane to add to the display; |
---|
77 | 77 | | forever a man of many hats, Mr. Cullins also served in the |
---|
78 | 78 | | Alabama Legislature from 1990-1994; and |
---|
79 | 79 | | WHEREAS, even after accumulating 95 years worth of |
---|
80 | 80 | | adventures, Mr. Cullins continues to look for areas in which |
---|
81 | 81 | | he might serve anyone around him and does not plan on |
---|
82 | 82 | | slowing down anytime soon; now therefore, |
---|
83 | 83 | | BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE |

84 | 84 | | LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That United States Army Veteran |

85 | 85 | | James T. Cullins is highly honored and celebrated on the |

86 | 86 | | occasion of his 95th Birthday Celebration, and this |
