HR____ CELEBRATING THE LIFE AND MOURNING THE DEATH OF CHERYL
VARNADOE RAMSEY.
WHEREAS, we pause to honor the life, legacy, and
unwavering dedication of Cheryl Varnadoe Ramsey, who touched
the lives of many through her passion for education,
service, and mentorship; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl was born on August 21, 1968, to
George Harold Varnadoe, Jr. and Rosetta Coats Williams, and
from an early age, she demonstrated a love for learning,
leadership, and music; and
WHEREAS, she was a proud graduate of A.H. Parker High
School, where she was actively involved in the marching and
concert bands, serving as section leader during her senior
year, and a dedicated member of the A.H. Parker High School
Concert Choir, where her melodious voice graced many
performances; and
WHEREAS, she pursued higher education at Jacksonville
State University, earning a double major in Human Resource
Management and Marketing, and in 1989, she became a
distinguished member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority,
Incorporated, an organization that remained dear to her
heart throughout her life; and
WHEREAS, recognizing her true calling in education,
Cheryl pursued her teacher certification from The University

Cheryl pursued her teacher certification from The University
of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) and dedicated herself to
three years of teaching before realizing her greater impact
would be in counseling; she went on to earn a Master's
Degree in School Counseling from Alabama State University
and spent over two decades shaping the futures of countless
students as a Guidance Counselor, most notably at her
cherished alma mater, A.H. Parker High School; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl's commitment to service was evident
through her Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority affiliations, where
she served as the Graduate Advisor for both Iota Phi (UAB)
and Gamma Pi (Miles College), earning the esteemed Graduate
Adviser of the Year Award for the Southeastern Region for
two consecutive years; and
WHEREAS, she was an active member of the Parker High
School United Alumni Association, continuously working to
uplift and support the institution that shaped her formative
years; and
WHEREAS, on November 19, 2011, Cheryl married her
devoted husband, Demetrius Ramsey, with whom she shared a
life filled with love and partnership; and
WHEREAS, she was a dedicated big sister to Charlette
White and a loving aunt to her nephews, Cameron and Caleb
White, never missing a milestone in their lives; and
WHEREAS, Cheryl was affectionately known as "Auntie"
to numerous student-athletes, selflessly dedicating her
time, energy, and resources to supporting their dreams,
ensuring they had the guidance and encouragement to succeed
both on and off the field; now therefore,

both on and off the field; now therefore, 
BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE
LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA, That we celebrate and honor the life
of Cheryl Varnadoe Ramsey, a devoted wife, sister, aunt,
educator, mentor, and leader whose legacy of service,
scholarship, and unwavering love for her community will
forever be cherished.
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That a copy of this
resolution be presented to her family as a token of our
deepest sympathy and gratitude for her life's work.
