15+SYNOPSIS:
16+This bill would authorize certain municipalities
17+to enter into memorandums of understanding with
18+sheriffs regarding traffic enforcement and provide for
19+additional fees in certain circumstances in
20+municipalities with a valid memorandum of
21+understanding.

1825 Relating to counties and municipalities; to authorize
1926 certain municipalities to enter into memorandums of
2027 understanding with sheriffs regarding traffic enforcement.
2128 BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
2229 Section 1. (a) The governing body of any Class 1, 2, or
2330 3 municipality may enter into a memorandum of understanding
24-with the sheriff and the county commission of any county
25-containing any portion of the municipality concerning traffic
26-enforcement.
31+with the sheriff of any county containing any portion of the
32+municipality concerning traffic enforcement.
2733 (b) In any municipality with a valid memorandum of
2834 understanding authorized by subsection (a), the governing body
2935 of the municipality may include a provision in the memorandum
3036 providing for additional fees for traffic violations in the
31-municipality and the distribution of the additional fees to
32-the office of the sheriff. Any fees distributed to the office
33-of the sheriff pursuant to the memorandum may only be expended
34-for law enforcement purposes.
35-Section 2. This act shall become effective on June 1,
36-2025.
