SYNOPSIS:
This bill would require the state to reimburse
Alabama residents for stolen benefits under the
Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.
A BILL
TO BE ENTITLED
AN ACT
Relating to the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
Program; require the state to reimburse Alabama residents for
stolen benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
Program.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
Section 1. Due to the lack of security measures being
taken by the state to protect the integrity of electronic
benefit cards used by beneficiaries of the Supplemental
Nutrition Assistance Program, the state, commencing on the
effective date of this act, shall reimburse Alabama residents
whose benefits under the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance
Program have been stolen in an amount equal to any loss in
stolen benefits.
Section 2. This act shall become effective immediately.
