| 23 | 23 | | BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA: |

| 24 | 24 | | Section 1. Section 45-37-230, Code of Alabama 1975, is |
|---|
| 25 | 25 | | amended to read as follows: |

| 26 | 26 | | "ยง45-37-230 |
|---|
| 27 | 27 | | (a) Effective beginning the next term of office |
|---|
| 28 | 28 | | Beginning on January 14, 2019 , the annual salary of the |
|---|
| 29 | 29 | | Sheriff of Jefferson County shall be one hundred sixty |
|---|
| 30 | 30 | | thousand dollars ($160,000). |
|---|
| 31 | 31 | | (b) Effective beginning the next term of office |
|---|
| 32 | 32 | | Beginning on January 14, 2019 , the sheriff shall receive the |
|---|
| 33 | 33 | | same cost-of-living increases provided to deputy sheriffs in |
|---|
| 34 | 34 | | Jefferson County granted after that date. |
|---|
| 35 | 35 | | (c)(1) Effective beginning on June 1, 2025, the sheriff |
|---|
| 36 | 36 | | shall receive an additional expense allowance of forty |
|---|
| 37 | 37 | | thousand dollars ($40,000) per year, payable in equal monthly |
|---|
| 38 | 38 | | installments from the general fund of the county. |

| 39 | 39 | | (2) This expense allowance shall be in addition to all |

| 72 | 72 | | (d) Effective beginning January 18, 2027, with the next |

| 73 | 73 | | term of office, the annual salary of the sheriff shall be two |

| 74 | 74 | | hundred forty-eight thousand dollars ($248,000), and the |
|---|
| 75 | 75 | | compensation provided for in subsections (a) and (c) shall be |
