17	17	SYNOPSIS:
18	18	Under existing law, it is a crime to possess a
19	19	forged instrument.
20	20	This bill would establish the crime of
21	21	presentment of a forged instrument and would provide
22	22	penalties for violations.
23	23	A BILL
24	24	TO BE ENTITLED
25	25	AN ACT
26	26	Relating to crimes and offenses; to establish the crime
27	27	of presentment of a forged instrument; and to provide
28	28	penalties for violations.
29	29	BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF ALABAMA:
30	30	Section 1. Section 13A-9-7.1 is added to the Code of
31	31	Alabama 1975, to read as follows:
32	32	§13A-9-7.1
33	33	(a) A person commits the crime of presentment of a
34	34	forged instrument if he or she does either of the following:
35	35	(1) Utters a forged instrument to an employee or
36	36	official of the state or any political subdivision of the
37	37	state with knowledge that the instrument is forged and with
38	38	intent to defraud.

69	69	(2) Utters a written instrument to an employee or
70	70	official of the state or any political subdivision of the
71	71	state with knowledge that the written instrument identifies or
72	72	is associated with another individual and with intent to
73	73	defraud.
74	74	(b) Presentment of a forged instrument is a Class D
75	75	felony.
76	76	Section 2. This act shall become effective on October
77	77	1, 2025.
